I have the Choice Extra HD DVR package. That runs 79.99/mo.

I see there is now a Choice Extra package for 63.99, and that if you get that (at least new customers), HD service is free with autopay. Add in $7 for DVR service and I could have the same I get now for $9 less a month, right?

Is this free HD with the Choce Extra plus autopay, available for existing customers?

Yes, except existing customers only get the credit for 2 years.

But, by then who knows what pricing structures DirecTV will have in place.

I was a bit upset when I could only get free hd for only 24 months, but hey free anything for any amount of time makes me happy.

With Att dsl back in 2003 ish dsl was on 12 month contract prices, of course when the contract ended the price would have reverted higher, I always called back on the 11th month and asked for a new contract, they said ok, and gave me a better deal each time. I did that for about 6 years.

So getting it for 24 months is no big deal, I am sure directv will offer a new better deal in 24 months. I really see the practice of charging for HD dying, dish network, directv, comcast & Uverse is offering free hd in my area.

Same goes for my iPhone service I sign up for new contracts to get the cheaper iPhone deal every other year.

Contracts contracts contracts... Makes the world go round :(

Surprisingly my Uverse Internet does not have a contract, nor does comcast do contracts in my area. Which makes me happy that contracts are beginning to disappear also.

I personally don't mind contracts. I've been with Att for cellphone since 1999, Internet since 2003, and have had contracts most of that time. Contracts with directv does not bug me in the least.

You shouldn't have any problem getting it as long as you set up AutoPay.

I am not under contract. I setup AutoPay Friday night and called about 2 minutes later. I was transferred to promotions, where they verified I had AutoPay and gave me the $10 discount for 24 months. Very easy.

Do you think that Directv will have the HD Access free longer than 24 months.
What I mean is no more HD access fee for life?

I just called to see about getting the free 2 year HD. Right now I have the Choice Xtra with DVR receiver. That is in the living room. I only have a standard receiver in the bedroom. I know, dumb choice when I signed up but my wife wouldn't listen to me at the time. Anyway.....

I asked the guy about upgrading my package. I told him what I wanted to do was get rid of the standard receiver in the bedroom and replace it with the DVR I currently have in the living room, then replace the living room receiver with a HD/DVR. He said that was doable, but it was going to cost me $199.00 to add the HD/DVR receiver in the living room. That kind of took with wind out of the sails of the idea. Oh well perhaps some date in the future Direct will offer a better deal.

Gkamer, Try going to the D* website and seeing what comes up if you order online. Depending on your circumstance (contract length, monthly credits etc) it might be cheaper. It often changes without notice. You could be pleasantly surprised. Mine bounces back and forth between $99 and free. I am out of contract and receive no monthly credits which does makes a difference.

That's a pretty good example of CSR Roulette. My experience was much better. I called to get Free HD for 24 months and was offered, without my asking, a second DVR at no charge other than a small installation fee and a new two-year commitment. This, of course, was a few months ago.
