I certainly believe the reputable OP but I've learned with these launches not to celebrate yet. Easy guys.

I'm sure that all 74 of you will be very happy. Perhaps they'll put it up on the big screen in the parking lot again.

Thanks for the info. I can pretty much guarantee you that if Directv gets the Sabre games going in HD, gets CBS in HD in Buffalo for Bills away HD games, and gets Sportstime Ohio turned on in Buffalo for the Indians, then I will likely be a Directv customer for life.

    <tony the tiger voice>GREAT news!</tony the tiger voice>

I'm most interested in the Sabres part of this thread. I don't mean to be disrepectful, but is it possible to get a more precise time frame for the Sabres home HD games than a "few weeks?" Are we talking before the end of the year?

Again, thanks so much for keeping us posted.

    +1.....

As the AVSForum thread on this topic shows, there's lots of reasons to think that the Dolan's would NEVER relinquish these HD channels to the NYC DMA....so....guess for those of us in the NYC DMA we'll just have to wait and see if those channels miraculously show content for us next Wednesday....or if this is only a beni for those with LP/CI subs......

Disclaimer: Not an NBA or NHL fan....so don't care about seeing Knicks/Isles games in HD....but DO like to get as much HD content as I can for my dollar.....

So that's why they don't go to the brand new arena? They are home watching on TV? I think the Devs are the only major sports team in recent history to have trouble selling out a new arena. Brand spanking new arena and they STILL can't get fans to go. Says something about Devils fans don't it?

And before you go off on me, remember, YOU started it!!

As stated I will be very happy to say I was wrong...next Wednesday, or any Wednesday it gets pushed back to. Please forgve me, however, if I take a wait and see attitude.

I hope it happens more than anyone, but I cannot possibly imagine what would possess Dolan to allow such a thing to happen.

Do you mean the revenue dollars he'll be losing from people who were only keeping Cablevision for these HD channels? The people who will happily be calling Cablevision on Wednesday to cancel their service?

    :)

I mean the money he'll be getting from DirecTv for allowing the channels to be carried.

Nobody would love to see the Dolans get what's coming to them more than me. But frankly, I don't think the number of customers leaving Cablevision because DirecTv will start carrying MSGHD/FSNYHD will be as great as some on this board expect.

We here on dbstalk are just a relatively small group, compared to number of Cablevision customers who are happy with the status quo.

They will GAIN millions more potential viewers than they will loose.

They will GAIN more revenue through almost any deal they could have made with DirecTV than they would loose by whoever may leave.. That number will be comparably insignificant

That is exactly why I don't get the CSN-Philly thing. None of this is all about money. It's about control.

How much more to you think they're getting from Direct per subscriber? Remember, we're talking comparing SD to HD, it's not like the channel wasn't on Direct in the first place.

I have no idea – 10 to 35 cents additional? That’s a satracer question that he/she probably cant' answer. I just think that the sheer number of HD DirecTV subscribers will easily compensate the number those who will leave Cablevison. I just don't see some huge mass migration, plus comparably, there are just so many more Direct customers.

Well, to be fair, none of the "insiders" has ever said DEFINITELY. It is always likely, a hint here, there, etc. So there's really no way to know what is going to happen, or when. And NONE of them has even touched on the subject of whether this will include the NY DMA or not.

It's almost as if we're all on a string here, like puppets, dancing every time a post hints at MSG/FSNY-HD. You know, like "Sprockets" on SNL: "MSGHD is coming...DANCE!". :)

As others have said, wait and see. Something appears to be up, but it seems to be a very complex issue, known to its full extent only by those who are first parties to the negotiations (and they're NOT posting here).

Isn't Cablevision a city based service? It is very hard to get a lot of dishes in built up areas. Cable is a lot easier and easy often wins the day. But now they get coverage all over the country (where there is no competition). Remember, MSG has been on DirecTV in SD for a long time. Did they lose customers?

I can see the Comcast Philly thing more than the MSG thing. Comcast Philly covers a very large area of Comcast viewership in cities, suburbs and rural areas. Easier for folks to go satellite and a much larger subscriber base. (Plus they have the market cornered with everyone but the Eagles...the Dolans don't have the Yankees and Mets, for example.) Even then, I think Comcast is shortsighted and hasn't run the numbers. They are hardly hurting in areas like the Mid Atlantic or Chicago where their channels have been on satellite since Day One.
