    Hello all,

I know there has been many threads posted about the Genie upgrade but I have a different question.

Has anyone successfully gotten D* to waive the MRV fee on the genie?

I'm out of contact for over 1 year now

I have the protection plan so I keep getting calls from D* for a free upgrade plus free install pitch to upgrade to the Genie

Problem is I have no use for MRV. I cancelled it on my HR24/H24 current set-up a few years back.

I just want the HR44 and one C41 with no MRV.

    Thanks for your help!

Since you will have a two "receiver" set up there will be no way to waived as you will be using MRV.

And you will technically be using Whole Home Service as everything you watch on your mini is coming from the genie. Everything. ;)

Even without the Genie client, you'd be charged an MRV fee.
With the client, it's well worth the $3 a month.

It verily boggles the mind how subscribers are getting charged for things they cannot use. That being said, I'm not sure how the TS feels justified in asking to be excused from paying a charge that everyone else with the same configuration pays.

Note that while DIRECTV calls many of the services it bills for a fee, many appear on the bill as a charge.

Is it that "charges" can be prorated but "fees" cannot?

How does one know when a fee is going to be a "fee" or a "charge"?

Anytime you watch the C41 it will through MRV since it has no tuners.

My car came with buttons near the rear view mirror that are used to open garage doors. The cost of this technology was built into the cost of the car. I don't have a garage. So, these buttons are useless to me. But Lexus charged me for them anyway. Does that boggle your mind as well?

Heh. I feel the same way about Sirius radio. All but useless to me, but it's built in and I paid for it. But I do use my garage door buttons! :)

Heck, there are many channels I don't watch, yet i'm still paying for them.
Having said that, let's not let this thread devolve into a discussion on a-la-cart.

There's a lot of things we don't use but we still pay for them, but pay TV is a luxury not a necessity.

The C41 uses RVU which is not the same as MRV.

The mrv charge exists even if you only have a Genie. Care to explain that?

Not at all. Lexus doesn't charge you monthly for "Garage Door Opener Service". They also offer SiriusXM capable radios as standard but subscribing to the service is optional once the included 90 day subscription runs out.

Any hardware required to do MRV must be built in to all HD DVRs. DIRECTV asks $199 to lease a HD DVR. That should cover the cost of any available features over and above those of a receiver. That they charge every month for a "service" that some cannot use is unfair at least.
