Well, alot of people in this great forum know I have helped them and have never been mean spirited but I was just offering encouragement as to my situation and that I thought Directv tries to help people gets deals when they are warranted.

I for the sake of sanity can not figure out why a Guy who is a Dish Customer would spend so much time and energy in a Directv Forum. I can't understand that for a second.

I must be missing something here.....

How is a customer who have been doing business with a company for 5 years, willing to commit to another 2 years or possibly more cheating the company just because they ask for a deal for being there so long??

Personally, as being a new business owner, if i would have a customer for 5 years and was willing to continue business with me i would be willing to cut them a good deal because that 5 year customer has friends.. and im sure he talks... so he tells his friends about the good service hes had over the years and after so long i still treating him good.... i bet his friend... and his friend... and maybe even his friend is gonna sign up for service with me.

bottom line.... if a customer does business with you and spends say 1300-1400 a year, really whats it gonna hurt to make em happy and give them a new receiver so the can continue to give you there money??

Not really much of a risk is it? You disconnect and open a new account and get all the new subscriber perks. :)

YES! Every time they compress the signal more and more. Every time they release new software that causes new problems. When they try to blackmail me into upgrading my grandfathered package by limiting what I can order online. When they have a separate charge for some of the HD channels and call it the Extra Pack. I feel lied to, cheated and stolen from. :hurah:

Am also a 10+ year D Great & Loyal Customer that wants to swap out my HR10-250 mpeg dvr and get an mpeg 4 dvr so the wife can see all the chs. that we pay for . D said it would cost $ 199.95 to do this , guess they don't want her to watch DC/ PPV on 179 to 198 + wife realy does not want to give her real DLBs AKA Tivo at least not for that price . :(

Doubt that will work - think it is documented you have to wait a year, unless you are willing to "fudge" personal information for the subscription

Whatever works. It's just television. I suspect they would be calling former customers, within a month, offering them a deal to return. Going OTA for a year wouldn't be a bad thing. I would watch less television and do something more productive. :)

Call back. They should switch out your HR10 for a new receiver. They have been doing this for quite a while now.

Be nice but firm and tell them that you have heard others are getting a FREE SWAP for their LEGACY MPEG-2 HR10-250s. Ask to talk to Customer Retention if you have to or a Senior Level 2 CSR and not to the Level 1 CSR who just know how to read from a Script.

I had to talk to a Senior Person twice to get what I wanted and I asked them if they considered me to be a good customer and when they said yes then I asked them if I should keep using my HR10-250s or upgrade for FREE to an MPEG-4 Directv DVR.

They sent me two DVRs to replace my 2 HR10-250s and all I had to pay was shipping. I also asked to have them ship me the BBCs that I had to use to get all of the MPEG-4 Channels and they sent me 4 of those for FREE!!!

Be Nice but Be Persistent and you will get what you want.

It is not possible to get an HD DVR "for free". You can get one for no cost or you can get one free. "For free" does not make sense. :p

You get a FREE DVR because Directv wants your business and in the Business World it makes great sense to upgrade your Legacy Equipment and also take care of your good customers as Churning is very evident in this market.

They get their money back in the long run situation if you stay with them and are satisfied.

I was told at 3 months you become a win back customer and are eligable for some deals. Not the same as a new customer but a deal. I canceled when they didnt give me the box for free.

Next day they called back and asked what it would take to come back. I after a long phone call I got a $250 credit to my account, free HD DVR Box(H23-700). No HD $10 payement and a $10 a month credit off my bill. I know this does not happen for everyone. I was very lucky. I was extremely nice and polite to them. Told them I was very happy with their service, just could not understand why a new customer could get it for free. I was out of my contract and had to get a new 2 year deal.

I guess the thing is be nice and do not threaten just explain to them that other deals are out there, in this economy you have to protect yourself and find that best deal. They also gave me a $60 credit to buy 2 of those wall jacks to hook up for on-demand. I love D*. They really came through for me more than I could imagine.

Sorry for the spelling errors. I am really new here to the forum. I have already learned alot. Now to figure out the external hard drive thing.
