I am trying to watch the Giants @ Cubs game. The only feed available for this game is CSN Bay Area. That Channel isn't carrying the game tonight in HD. This Channel looks aweful. WHY isn't CSN Bay Area Carrying this game in HD? It's Horrible! I just saw a promo for that channel. It said "CSN Bay Area The Most Sports in HD" What a Bunch of Bologna!!!

Perhaps the question would be better directed towards CSNBA, as you can't carry something in HD that is not being distributed in HD (at least by CSNBA):)

It was terrible. It was like watching an embedded news report from some Afghani tribal region. Dark, jerky, and out of focus. Worse than Direct's flavor of WGN on a good day. I couldn't watch it.

I ended up watching it on the EI Mix channel. The PQ on the smaller picture was many time better.

I noticed the poor PQ as well. Although it seemed to be primarily the center field camera Shots from other angles didn't look nearly as bad.

Watching on EI today, the SF feed still looks horrible in SD, the Cubs feed looks fine.

OK. Am watching the game today also as I did last night. The sd quality is awful as most everone can see, however it is not Comcast. It is Directv with there compression. I also wrote to Comcast and asked them why their studio shows are in HD on their systems and not a full time channel on Directv. I recieved an answer as follows:

    Gary,
Thanks for you inquiry regarding our HD studio telecasts. We're
currently providing a full time HD feed to all our affiliates. This
includes games, pre/postgame coverage and all our news studio shows ALL
in HD. At this point of time, your provider has not launched the
full-time HD channel. We encourage you to contact your provider and
    request that they carry it.

    Regards,
    Ky

We should all call Directv to get what we pay for.

    Sorry for the venting.

I have written to D* regarding both CSN BA/CA asking when we might see them in HD full time with the obviously pre-written responce "we're working it on it...." The real frustrating part is some of the games on CSN (both) have been in HD although they were not orginally listed, so D* didn't show those games in HD. I sure hope this changes sometime soon, CSN has said they will continue to roll out more HD programs in the future (their 49er post game show is one). I guess all we can do is keep asking both D* and CSN when this will happen.

The trouble is, who do you ask at Directv that will give you at least an educated answer instead of a (will look into it}.

    Still venting.

That may be so, but why badly compress that CSN channel (FSNBA) and not the Chicago CSN channel (CSN Chicago?) showing the same game? The latter doesn't look nearly as bad, and they're both Comcast channels.

DirecTv wouldn't have to compress channels if they would dump alot of the channels that noone hardley watches. Like the Dumb home Shopping Channels and all the religion channels. I bet hardly 5% of viewers or maybe even less watch those channels on a regular basis. I say dump them.

I watched the CSNBA-SD telecast on D* and on Comcast SD and they both were terrible. Maybe it's a CSNBA SD issue.

This is my guess without any real knowledge. DirecTV and CSN are in a pissing match. Comcast has unannounced HD broadcasts and DirecTV compresses the hell out of the SD. Each side trying to F with us.

The bottom line in this matter is to keep pushing Directv into getting full time HD on both CSNBA and CSNCA. We are a big enough area to have them. I wonder because they are my local rsn's, we are intitled to have them in HD and Directv is breaking the contract. And I don't have to stay with them for thm rest of the two years.
