I've had an H20 since 2006 that still works fine. The problem is, its becoming outdated. My question is will D* replace it without me having to pay $100 for a new reciever?

I think it would depend somewhat on what other equipment and services you have.
They get swapped out for MRV and "I've heard" they will when the HD GUI comes out.

Read mix reports on CSR responses to replacing the H20 because it can't run the new NR.

But mentioning your plan to get a 3D television will still get you at least a H21. Unless they done an aboutface on that too!

I am not so sure that they will just send one because you tell them that, I think you have to have the tv and give them a code that comes up when it doesn't work.

Unless you are wanting to use it for MRV, do 3D, or get the new HD GUI, it does everything any of the H2x series does as far as I watching channels goes. When you get the HDGUI, there should be some swap program to replace it, but it could be months before its ready.

Cincinnati has officially gotten the HD GUI (as of yesterday), so I'd try using that to see about getting a swap.

So I went ahead and called D*. They waived the $99 fee but wanted to charge $49 for installation. I'm like installation? I tell the CSR rep all I need to do is disconnect the old reciever and plug in the new one, right? She's says "right". So I ask why do I need to pay an installation fee? She says " uhh.......you don't, just pay shipping and handling". I love how they try and nicel and dime!!

I do see in your profile that you have three DVRs. Do you have MRV in a DECA cloud?

My H20 was replaced by an H25 for "free" when I had MRV installed.

I asked about a recovery kit for it and the 2 SD receivers I had left over after the upgrade. CSR told me I didn't need one because I owned all the receivers. My only comment was "That's funny, I didn't own them a couple weeks ago when I paid my bill"...she laughed.

My wife works for a technical school and they were having an electronics recycling "event"......so she carried all my old receivers in and put them in the drop off. When I've ended up with "owned" receivers before, I alwasy "donated" them to Goodwill....

They didn't show up on your bill additional receivers?

I'll bet you will now have a new 2 year commitment for this replacement. I own a H20 and it's working fine. I like having the OTA tuner built into the receiver.

I know I'd have gladly taken a 2 year to get rid of my H20. Actually, I did, plus paid $200. But got MRV, now HD GUI, and a DVR. He gets 2 out of 3 potentially.

It's a miracle you still have a working H20. I got two installed at once back in 2006. The first one lasted only a year and a half; the second one lasted three years before they were overcome by the overheating monster.

There were two models, the -600 "toaster" and the -100 that worked fine.

I had an H10 that was a toaster. I plugged a laptop usb fan into it to help cool it down. It didn't help much.
