On my brand new H25 I am getting messages that it is unable to connect to download guide data. It was installed 5 days ago and worked fine until today. I ran the network setup again and it says it is connected to Directv via Internet with result code 88-162. When i click connect now i get Unable to start network services (<202>). When I do a System info & Test I get error: receiver error detected. Diagnostic code 12-242
the H25 is connected to an HR34 which seems fine.
Any ideas for me to try or should I call D*?

    Hello VideoDog,

You are looking at the wrong location. You should check the satellite setup on the H25 and if this is wrong then set it up for the correct dish. You could check for the signal strength on all the satellites to see the signal levels. The range is from 0 to 100 with 0 being no signal and 100 the highest possible signal. The guide data comes off a satellite. For an SL5 it comes from the 119 degree satellite. For the SL3 it comes off the 101 degree satellite. If you have an SL5 type of dish it receives signals from satellites at 99, 101, 103, 110 (inactive currently as far as I know and 119 degrees. If you have an SL3 type of dish it only gets signals from 99, 101 and 103 degrees. If you are setup for the wrong type of satellite dish you will not get the guide data. I hope this helps you but if it does not then I am sure that if I can,t give any more assistance someone else smarter than I can help you. It would be easier to assist you if your equipment and setup as a whole were described. An example would be an SL5 satellite dish(slim line 5), 3 H24/700 receivers, 2 HR34/700 DVR's (digital video recorder), 1 HR24/500 DVR with SWM 16 multiswitch (coax distribution to receivers/dvr's), whole home, cinema connection kit and DECA (for coax connection to the internet). An alternative could be SL3 satellite dish, 1 H25/XXX, 6x8 multiswitch and ethernet connection to the internet.

An H25 has 2 tuners, one for programming and a network tuner used for guide data. Code 12 indicates no signal on the network tuner. Go to the satellite signal screen and scroll to SWM. If channel one has signal, reset your receiver and rerun the system test. If code 12 is still present, you will need to replace the receiver.

caseyf5 - well thought out post but you missed one thing. It is an H25 and so only works on an SWM dish (or SWM multiswitch) , and the guide data on SWM always comes from the 101 satellite, whether you have an SL3 or an SL5.
delray's post is correct. You need to see if you are receiving signals on the regular tuner, if you are, then the separate tuner handling guide data has failed. If you are not getting signals, then you should normally be seeing 771s when you select a channel.

    Good post "but":
Yes the non SWiM SL3 has the 101 hardwired so the guide data always comes from 101.
The SL5 gets the guide data from "both" 101 & 119.
When tuned to the 101 or 99 SAT it comes from 101, and when tuned to the 103 SAT it "has to" come from the 119 SAT, as that's how this LNB is wired.

And while I don't have an H25 personally, I assume like others you can also press the "Guide" and ">" right arrow buttons simultaneously on the receiver to access the hidden "System Diagnostics" screen.

Use the ">" right arrow button this time on either the remote or front panel, to highlight the scroll bar and then scroll down to check the "Network Tuner" signal strength level.

That doesn't get you where you think.
That gets you into the modem/coax test menu.

Yeah I know, but when you scroll down the info on the right hand side isn't it listed underneath the phone/modem test stuff?

Satellite tuner, network tuner, and OTA (if any) levels?

At least that's the way it is on my HR24 and HR34 here. Of course those are DVRs and not STBs :)

You're right. The 25 runs a very similar code, and "frankly" I was always looking into the DECA/coax testing and hadn't paid/remembered much about the first screen.

Your network settings have naught to do with Guide data!

If the other suggestions don't work, I'd give an outside shot to flushing the Guide and letting it rebuild. All you have to do is reset the box twice within 30 minutes.

Thanks for all the help. I'm at work right now and I don't recall all my equipment but here is what I know:
My setup is SlimLine dish (I don't know model), HR34/700 DVR, H25/500 receiver, don't know the rest right now but he did say he was installing a Cinema Connecton Kit.

When you say for me to do a 'reset' on the H25 which method of reset?
I noticed a red button on the side? Is that a reset button?
I also see 'Reset to Defaults' and 'Reset Everything' on the Reset menu.

I did a 'Reset Everything' and here are the satellite numbers afterwards:
SWM: Satellite Transponders (9 total at SWM)
    1-8: 100, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 100, 95
    9-16: 95

    My other satellites:
    101: 32 transponders.
    1-8: 95, 96, 95, 0, 95, 99, 96, 100

    99(c):14 transponders.

You have signal on the guide feed, so the network tuner in the receiver is bad. You'll have to get a replacement, give DirecTV a call.

Can you use an H25 without an internet connection? I was planning on putting some of them into a lounge and didn't plan on having the internet connected to the SWM setup.

Yes you can, though without that or a phone line, PPV ordering via remote doesn't work.

    Sure;

Without at least a phone line for them though you cannot order any PPVs on them with the remote and must use the DIRECTV website.

EDIT: Oopps too late I see ... :)

How can you be so sure this isn't a software or corrupt guide issue?

Mainly from the code 12 from the system test. He's not getting signal on the network tuner, though the primary tuner sees the SWM's guide channel fine. Not much else it can be.

I would think a "Reset Everything" would clear out the guide DB. That should rule out a guide data problem. The OP could always try reloading the firmware (0 2 4 6 8) on startup.

    To the OP:
Have you gone into the hidden menu yet to see if there's a signal showing on the network tuner as HoTat2 suggested?

Hey Go Beavs. Yes, I can try that when I get home tonight. I'm new to all this D* diagnostic stuff so please excuse my ignorance...but it seems that dielray can determine that my network tuner is kaput from the numbers I posted. I'm not sure how he determined that. I guess one of the transponders on one of the satellites is the network tuner...and that it's signal was 0? Not exactly sure.

Any way, I'll do what HoTat2 suggested and let you all know...

Thanks again to all you experts for the help.
