After having terrible stuttering/freezing/locking up problems both live and recorded, I decided to do some HD diagnostics. I get an error code of 70 when doing the surface test, after 2% complete jumps to 100% and get error code. All other tests pass.

    What does this mean ?

    Thanks.

I don't think D* gives out what the specific codes mean but if you get any code like that the HDD is toast. The problems you are having confirms it.

    Thanks Matt.

It's a Seagate 1.5Tb Drive I installed maybe a year and a half ago, just didn't expect it to go out so soon. :(

You might wait until someone else comes along that might know the code but if it were mine I'd be replacing it. Maybe it has a warranty left on it?

The error codes from the drive diagnostic test are different than the general self test error codes. I've never seen any list of the specific meaning of any of the hard drive test codes. Any failure of the hard drive diagnostic test usually means that the drive is toast, or will be soon, and the DVR should be replaced.

If you'll switch to PC and check the disk by MHDD (boot it from CD) or Victoria under Windows, you'll get meaningful info: SMART data before and after scan with REMAP, etc

Mr. Smith, what exactly is Victoria and how do you get a copy of it or how do you run it?

Reinstalled original drive and now works perfectly. I would like to check this drive before sending it in for replacement. What is MHDD ? I have a machine with no drive and could boot from CD.

    Thanks.

    EDIT: Found it here:

New drive in for 24 hours all running fine except for the guide.

How long does it normally take for the guide to populate ? There are still a LOT of holes in the guide from Wednesday on.

Anyway to force the guide to download faster ?

    Thanks.

Usually takes a day or two for the guide to completely populate.

There is another thread about the guide issue - why not post your question there ? Especially it totally offtopic here.

It normally takes 48 hours to Populate Completely and there is no way to make it download faster as we have no control over it at all as it is up to Directv and the Satellite traffic to determine speed.

The OP started the thread about his issue. In effect, it's his thread. If he wants to ask other questions IN HIS OWN thread, who are you to tell him not to?

Are you big fan of scrambled eggs ? :D

Really, forum's intention is to keep under one topic same kind of info and related to its discussion. Regardless if you open it or not.

Perhaps you saw how often Mods made many points about the idea here ...
