I understand you concern, but ultimately the same promotion (in some sort or fashion) that new customers have today was available to you when you were a new customer. Trying to avoid the process and policy of Dish Network in this regard will only hurt you in the long run. Especially if the Audit Team finds that you have technically created a duplicate account to evade legitimate charges for equipment. The receivers you have now can be leased or purchased - you'd have to ask Dish that question to know for sure. If they are leased you MUST return them or you'll be charged for not returning the equipment.
As I read your original message Dish wants $250 for the HD equipment with a $200 rebate over time vs $49 for a new customer. Other than the time value of money you are griping about $1.
