They have to sign me up for automatic bill pay. WTF, anyone else get offered this deal? :nono2: Called to cancel NFLST and asked if they would be matching Dish with the free HD Access and that's the deal he offered me.

I have been with DTV since early 1995 and there is no way i would ever do autopay. The reason is that 60% of the time my bill is wrong and i have to call them to correct it. In my mind autopay takes trust and in todays world trusting a huge company when it comes to $$ is like living in a dreamworld. Just my take on things :)

I have no idea why you had so much trouble with something so simple.

You're absolutely right. Here is how I looked at it when I finally signed up for AP. I waited long after everyone else signed up. You already call D* countless times to fix your billing problems. So you spend time checking your bill rather than anticipating a figure on your statement. Why not take a $10 credit a month and continue to do the same thing?

Just because I'm now on AP doesn't mean I'm not going to thoroughly run through my statement every month. I have the same sentiments as you, but since we're going to be calling them anyway, IMO why not take a $10 credit per month?

Evidently there have been changes made in the system recently. I tried it three times on the website and, even though I got the welcomming email, I later got a message that I was not signed up and that I was going to lose my discount.

Sure enough, each of the first three times my account showed me not signed up for autopay, even though I had tried to do so.

Then someone posted in the other thread that the website looked different and when they tried it that time, it worked. So I went back and tried it again, and it did work for me, too.

Well i guess the main reason is i want to make the call for the correction before they get my money, not after. I like having the leverage since i am not under any contracts. Believe me i would rather not have to make any calls but there hasnt been a 4 month period in 10 years that my bill wasnt different month to month due to errors on their part. You would think it would be simple to bill a client the same amount 12 times straight but i guess not.

Wow, 60% of the time your bill is wrong! They must not like you. My bill has never been wrong and I have added things, requested credits, etc. And I track everything in an excel spreadsheet, just to verify it. Autopay works great for me.

my bill goes through VZ so they saw that as qualifying for the $10 off for 24month.

I understand completely. I have them send me a monthly statement and you have a couple weeks to go over it before they charge you. If you're against receiving statements in the mail, you can check online when they post your bill. You get time to review things before they charge you.

That's very true if you set up autopay to your bank account. If you set up it up to a credit card, like I do, it posts the day your statement processes. Then hits your credit card typically the next day. So you really can't review it, but you have leverage with a CC to dispute the charge. Then you don't pay the CC Co until its resolved.

yeah, My bill has never been wrong over 12 years of beeing a customer... but, since I use a credit card, if it's wrong, and they don't fix it, my credit card issuer will fix it for them... that's why I would not recomend using a checking account or debit card, but use an actual credit card...

If I had my bill wrong 60% of the time since 1995 I wouldn't be on this message board, I would be on the phone screaming at Directv or at least cancelling service. Who would keep paying someone to get something wrong 60% of the time? Well except goldwing I mean...

HD Access free for 2 years only? I thought Dish has a deal where you get HD Access free for life. Why would you only want it for 2 years?

...because there may be no charge at all in two years or another offer may be extended.

Perhaps my comprehension level is lacking, but I took it to mean that DTV was the one having trouble – not the poster.
