Well, let's face it: I, and others, are human and hate change.
Probably if they added something free we would find something about it to bitch about.

I didn't like the change only because of UHD and HDNM. I am not going to lose sleep over them but, I reserve my right to bitch!:D

Wait! You mean they had been charging $10.00 a month for the HD option that was simply some remapped SD?

No. The original TNT HD channel in the 70s is the EXACT same TNT HD channel that is on 242(?). They are showing it on two different channel numbers, but it is the same mpeg 2 feed

They put it at the original SD channel number so that when(if i am not mistaken) they did change it to MPEG 4 new HD users wouldnt have to learn a new channel number

    Umm... no...
There is TNT-SD and TNT-HD. Those are distinctally different channels in the data stream.

The TNT-HD is remapped to multiple channel numbers.

Bitching, venting, ranting, and otherwise commenting, both supportively critical and non-supportively critical are allowed. Thank you for keeping it clean. :)

I can understand people not being aware of this change in plans. In March and May, (I think) DIRECTV was touting the new channels and the access fee would cover the costs. Then reality hit them in the face--they don't have carriage costs for some of the new HD only channels! Oops!

I'm sorry that this hits us this way, but other hand, I guess it was too good to be true that there wouldn't be any price increases before the annual increase in March.

The good news is that with the 3 months free, we really aren't getting a price increase before March, just some strange methods for telling people about the package.

    Happy Holidays!

    Ummm...

They are... HD Extra Pack is free for the 3 months, so you can try it before you buy it.

Eveyrone hates change... but change will always occur.

No... you misunderstood... channel 242 & 75 are both the same HD channel, they are just still in MPEG-2 compression format.

I guess I was beaten to the answer... sorry .

NO! They are not mapping SD to HD, for example they are simply mapping ESPNHD ch 73 to ESPNHD ch 206, same MPEG2 channel, same stream, has nothing to do with the SD version.

Hating Change.... It is starting to sound like my work here. Everytime I update our network here or our software with some cool changes to make people's life easier. They all start complaining. But, after a while they get use to it and love it until I do the next change. :D

I guess that is universal... I have the same problem where I work. Even when the changes are things that they asked for.

If I read it right we have until sometime in February to sign up for the Extra-Pack and still get the 3 months free, if I'm wrong please let me know.
So I've decided to go without these channels for at least 30 days to see if I miss them, I'll also be watching what they are showing in the guide to see what I'm missing.
If I miss them or see programs I want to watch/record then I'll add the Extra-Pack, if not then as stated it's my choice not to.

You have very well summarized my understanding and information from DIRECTV. You can wait until February and still get the 3 free months.

    Happy Holidays!

Sounds like a good option to me if you're not sure about paying for the extra channels.

:nono: D" extended the 3 months for free HDExtra package for a couple of reasons. 1-They completely mishandled the notification process otherwise the first 3 month promo would have been succesful, unfortunantly most never got any info on the change, thus the reason for the additional 3 month extension.. 2- They hope those who are upset now will cool down and rethink and support the new plan, I think they will watch closely to see if those who signed up for the free offer will stay or cancel,If most cancel the package D will probably rethink the whole thing, but nothing is going to change until this current 3 month promo ends....then and only then will D look at its decision...

    Near San...
Count me in on this. Guess being a long-time subscriber doesn't help either.

Money grubbing executives needed a source for bigger year-end bonus I guess.

Your opinions all make sense, but at the same time I think it's jumping to conclusions to say that this is all because an executive needs a bigger raise. I'm sure there's more to it than that.

Since October, it was available online for 3 free months... this hasn't changed, nor has been extended.

Just because the effective date of the package finally arrived, doesn't change that....
