    Isn't DTV supposed to be offering a free preview of their HD Extra Pack? It's not on for me?! Anybody else not getting it?

    X 2. Takes a little interaction from the customer every three months, but worth it.

    I got a free 3 month on it and when I tried to cancel this week, they said I had to go with a newer package for more money with less channels first before they could cancel it in their system. They said it would be cheaper to just keep it and my old package.

    I got a text about that but didn't pay too much attention to it as I have the premier package. If I remember correctly there was a code in the text you had to type in somewhere to get the free preview.

    I called and did my 3-month cancel routine (been doing it for 3 years now). No hassle about upgrading, but now I can't find the usual "3 month free extra pack" link.

    Been wanting to ask about this myself, but since it is a rather unscrupulous trick, I never liked to really speak of it.

    But I recently tried to do the "cancelation-restart free trial" trick for the HD Extra Pack before the auto-pay debited my bank account for the last pay period.

    But the "remove" option for it was (and still is) grayed-out. And when I click on it anyway it gives me a pop-up message that I cannot cancel within 30 days of activation. Says I would have to call DIRECTV and pay an addtional fee to do it.

    Think DIRECTV has found and corrected the loophole/bug on this feature? :sure:

    o you have a grandfathered package, like choice xtra classic? That usually prevents some online changes.D

    Yeah Grandfathered Premiere;

    Like I said though, the trick worked for years up to the last billing cycle. But now the package's removal radio button is grayed out with that pop-up message.

    Try this http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/premiums/hd_extra_pack

    I re-upped mine back on 5/9. Just checked website and the button is grayed out but the word "Remove" right next to it is active. I usually always call a CSR to remove it to make sure I do not get charged.

    i just did it today online. Noticed the charge for this month, cancelled it and saw a credit. Went back and added the 3 months for free immediately afterwards. Usually, I cancel and forget about it. I get called a couple of weeks later and accept the free offer. Honestly, I never watch the programming on those channels. I think their location lends them to be forgotten.
