Of course the channels I want are more important than the ones you want, and vice versa. If we couldn't complain that we aren't getting certain channels, this whole forum would be much smaller

    Lancaster,...
That's funny because of all of the threads and postings I've ever seen on DBSTalk.com, I can't say I've ever seen anyone post anything about wanting more HD shopping channels. What I DO constantly see are threads about people wanting Fox News Channel, Travel Channel, other premium channels, etc. in HD.

I think these are the channels the vast majority of D* customers WANT added in HD.

Yeah, but DirecTV has been pretty shifty with these claims, adding PPVs rather than real channels.

I smell more RSN festivus fun! I'd welcome CSN New England HD for Celtics games.

satelliteracer said in a thread here that a very small national HD festivus was coming sometime "soon". But we all know soon is ambiguous when it comes to DIRECTV. (No offense implied or intended).

    Regardless:

I hadn't heard of Universal Sports HD until you mentioned that. According to Wikipedia, the HD channel is available to cable and satellite providers. Of course it almost definitely won't be in HD OTA if an NBC affiliate puts it on a digital subchannel to replace Weather Plus.

The press release states that the D11 sat gives DirecTV the 'Capacity for Up to 150 National HD Channels', not that they will have 150 National HD channels.

Before Halloween you should see that channel.

Several others are scheduled to come about before that time period in addition to more HD local markets, too.

    No HD locals this week.

Maybe....big MAYBE you may see a HD national channel at the end of this week. MAYBE.

That same press release puts the lions share of emphasis on National HD's. Yes, they mention locals and stuff ..... but the lead headline in bold print (re: 150 National HD's), the secondary bold-print headline (re: 200 National HD's in 2009), and the first item in the first paragraph of the actual release ALL focus on NATIONAL HD. If your lead headline, secondary headline, and first item in the release all discuss National HD, I think it's reasonable for customers (or potential ones) to assume that National HD is a pretty big priority.

DirecTV has shown in recent months that they can write about National HD. Delivering it, however, seems to be a different thing altogether. They really seem to taking on the attributes of the companies that they used to make fun of. And that press release, as I've said before, is starting to make them look like just another sleazy used car salesman. Promise one thing ..... but deliver another.

Yeah, I kind of figured that out... though as KenH said, HD is IN the works... though obviously it won't be in HD on the sub-channels...
