Does anyone have any idea or info on when (if ever) I might be able to get some HD-PBS stations via DirecTV (not OTA)?

When PBS and DirecTV manage to come to an agreement - if they ever do. PBS wants "must-carry" for digital subchannels over satellite - some PBS stations carry six subchannels of programming, and carrying all the subchannels for all the channels (PBS and others) in some cities would double the number of stations DirecTV needs to carry. Some PBS stations have multiple subchannels during the day and drop them in favor of one HD channel at night - very difficult for DirecTV to manage. It's mostly a matter of business philosophy - most commercial stations have concentrated on getting one main channel of high-quality HD, to attract advertising. Many PBS stations have gone the other route - take the single ATSC channel and divide it up into multiple subchannels so they can deliver lots of programming - sometimes the same programming just time-delayed, sometimes specialist subchannels like PBS for kids....But then they discovered that the satellite companies, and most cable TV systems, don't want to spend the money delivering lots of programming that not many people watch.

Sure makes it more difficult for PBS when they do their fundraising drives. One would think they would like (thus compromise) to have their enhanced programming aired to as many customers as possible.

If you don't have an OTA antenna, I highly recommend it. It works well with the HR20 and solves the PBS problem (and other problems too, like improved local pic quality). There's no annual fee for OTA too....

Really, what is your zip code? You can't get 13 out of New York?
