Does anyone know why there are 2 different shades of blue on the HHD % bar when viewing your recorded list. Is this a glitch or are the 2 shades of blue representing 2 different amounts of space?

The light blue bar represents the shows your spouse recorded that you hate and can be safely deleted.

    Kidding.

    From the manual:

The dark blue is showing the percentage of programs that you have marked to KEEP and the light blue is the rest of the recordings.

Yes, apparently it answers a lot of questions when you do!

I've heard that some people actually read manuals, but I thought that was just a myth.

I was told yesterday by a CSR that the more shows that are recorded to the HDD, the slower the DVR will work. I was concerned about time between channel changes, not accessing the drive for a recorded show. Is that true? My channel changes can take 10-20 seconds sometimes...

That is not true until you get down below about 10% hard drive space.

That seems too long for a channel change.
What settings have you done to try to speed this up ?

Menu, Settings, Display, Video, Native to OFF
Menu, Settings, Display, Video, Resolutions ( Choose only the resolution that your TV supports, 1080i for a 1080p TV or 720p for a 720p TV )

Have you reset the receiver ?
    Menu, Settings, Reset, Restart Receiver

I agree with Stuart, unit I get below 10% I don't notice any change in speed. As mentioned turning off Native resolution will help with channel changing speed. Some people have also mentioned that tuning to channel 1 for about 30 seconds will help improve responsiveness, but I haven't noticed much change myself.

You would think some of it had to be correct, no? I've never read it either.

    Something that might help:

Change to Channel 1. Let it sit there (after settling in), for 30 seconds or more.

Change back to your desired channel. Chances are, some of the missing speed will return. It works here. I end up doing it at least once per day. Letting it sit on Channel 1 for at least 30 seconds, seems to clear some background processes that are eating needed cpu cycles.
