I just got my receiver box updated today to a HDDVR(HR21/200). The SD channels work but only some of the HD channels work. The installer was gone before i could tell him about the problem. The error code on the HD channels is (771). Is there any thing i can do now to fix it? Or do i just wait?

Go into the setup menu and check the SAT setup/view signal strengths.
Check the 99c & 103ca/b screens and post the numbers here.

Sounds like a bad LNB. Call DIRECTV and do make a point of telling them the installer left without adequately testing.

Are there two cables running to the back of the DVR or one? If there are two, are there little boxes attached?

There is only one cord from the wall to the back of the HDDVR

ok. Just curious. I think Stuart is correct. This sounds like a switch problem, and you're running a SWiM LNB, so the switch problem has to be in the LNB. There's a possibility that the DVR is having issues, but it's far less likely.

You should be able to, yes. If you can't, that's another thing the installer should have done for you.

Now I'm curious. How do you know he's got a SWiM?

Only one cable to the DVR. One-tuner setups are sufficiently rare. When you see hoofprints, think horses, not zebras :)

When I hear of an installer leaving before making sure everything is running correctly, I think of a crappy install. Of course, most of us would assume a SWiM install, but considering my history with installers....
