    For anyone interested...HDNet Test Pattern Jan 16th @ 6:30a.m.

I like to have it for around for testing and thought some of you might want to record it on your HR24's.

Are there any instructions anywhere on how to use this thing and adjust TV for it?

It has a narrative that tells you what it all means. I wouldn't use it to do an actual calibration but it is useful to determine what you may need to adjust.

The clock at the bottom of the screen is useful for testing things like how far MRV trick play over shoots the target among other things.

It's pretty self-explanatory. I have it recored on all of my DVRs. It also has a 10-min countdown clock on the screen that's handy for checking things like 30-sec skip timing, etc.

Hey a question for you smart guys. Does it matter if it is MPEG-2 or MPEG-4? I'm recording them both from the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 sources.

It's always good to have both. I have recordings of both versions on all of my DVRs as well.

How much longer will we be able to record MPEG-2? I can't see it being very much longer...I've been known to be wrong before.

It's in my guide on Ch 306/6:30-6:40a.m.

It's also in my To-Do list.

Perhaps you skipped over it because it's only 10 minutes long and you can read the title unless you actually on that time slot.

Yep got it on the HR24 on Sat Dec 19 personally! Great idea to get the MPEG-2 though.

OTA will be MPEG-2 until they change the ATSC standards, which I suspect they will not for quite a while considering it took so long to get it into use. However, with compressions changing and it all being digital, it seems to me they should find a way to firmware (software) in a new compression sheme and current TVs should be ok, but we'll have to see. I haven't heard of anything changing for ATSC, has anyone else?

Go to DirecTV.Com and look it up, that is what I did, and I told it to record on all my DVRs from both channels. :D
