Could it be because he is fiscally conservative and socially liberal?
I consider myself the exact opposite, first of all a fiscal conservative then a socail liberal. I can not believe (well actually I can) that we are going to waste our time on the gay marriage issue. Several years ago I was "confronted" that a very good friend/co-worker was gay and you know what - big deal! He was and is still a good friend and one hell of a person. We are in severe financial crisis! We must put our financial house back in order. Sorry ecological activists, we need access to cheap dosmistic oil. Start drilling in Alaska yesterday. If we redevelop our own source of fuel (initially oil then alternative fuels) screw the Arab nations. Then we don't have to deploying troop to the middle east to ensure fuel and then we can fix social security. We are not talking rocket science, just getting our priorities right!
Yes, he is. Which is exactly why he wouldn't win the Republican nomination for President (if Constitution passed). In both parties, to win the nomination, you have to swing away from center; but to win over all you have to shift, partially anyway, back towards center.
Bush is against "EMBRIONIC" stem cell research. Not all stem cell research. There is something that is unclear to me. Is Bush against this type of stem cell research as in making it against the law? Or is he just against funding this type of research with federal dollars?
Bush is against federal funding any NEW embrionic stem cell research. I.E. he doesn't any embryos created for federal funding research. He is for federal funding of embryonic stem cell research with existing lines, and as far as I know this is ONLY about federal funding. I don't believe he's pushed for a law to outlaw private funding of such research.
Correct. There is no law against the research, only federal funding of that research. The "existing lines" of stem cells have been proven already to be useless, they are so contaminated they've mostly been destroyed. While private money is available for further research, a great deal of our medical discoveries, even those done by private companies, are at least partially funded through government agencies like the NIH and CDC.
Exactly. Which is why I have been surprised at the suggestion of changing the constitution, so obvously aimed at Arnold. He would never be accepted by the Religious Right and far right.
I agree. It's hard to believe in the principles of our Country and not feel good about Iraqis being able to vote. But the ends don't justify the means.
I could only watch about 10 minutes of the State of the Union. Dubya's little preppy boy, smirkish manerisms can only be tolerated in small doses.
Don't understand that myself... but then again, I am a member of the "vast right-wing" conspiracy and would never vote for Ahhnuld.
