I'm not sure if I should switch to Direct TV.

The installer came yesterday and said the trees were in the way and he couldn't get a good signal so we couldn't mount the dish on the roof.

The installer determined that he could install the dish on a pole on the side of our house. The dish would be pointing above the neighbor's garage and below some tree limbs. I'm worried that I will have signal problems with the tree limbs moving in the wind.

    What do you think?

I have a photo but can't post it.

Hard to answer a question like that without knowing what it will look like

Try dishpointer.com and see what it thinks your dish should be pointing toward

Post a couple of placeholder posts to hit the 5 posts mark (you need 5 for links/pics). Then post the photo.

Is the building in the pic yours or your neighbor's?

That is my neighbor's garage and the tree limbs that the signal would go under.

Ask your neighbor if you can put a dish on his garage roof. Or, go for a ground pole mount near the property line by his garage.

Here's the issue (something most techs don't know/aren't taught). DBS dishes are all 22.5° off-set dishes, meaning the LNB is 22.5° below the centerline of the dish, so signal comes in from 22.5° ABOVE the centerline, bounces at a 45° angle, and to the LNB.

So, your dish may appear to be shooting under the branch, but may actually be aiming right into it.

Can you move the dish further to the pic's right?

The installer said the signal is 30% up into the sky, so the signal must pass over the roof and under the tree limbs.

You are correct it would work better to move the dish further right but then it is in the back yard and my wife doesn't like that so I'm thinking my Direct TV idea is not going to work out.
