i vote for it....someday
I don’t know what they use to generate the interface. But if they have fonts in the system that are like true type fonts on a PC, and if the rest of the interface was based on vector graphics, the interface should scale nicely with resolution changes.
I personally have no problem with the current size of the text elements, I just wish they weren’t so fuzzy around the edges. I would like antialiased fonts, but you can clearly tell these aren’t antialiased, it’s just the old 480 interface stretched up to 1080
Fixing this might also fix the problem with fonts in DoD and in closed captions.
Looks like those settings are only for closed captioning.
Here's a thread I started back in June. I agree completely about the guide resolution and size.
Eh, not a high priority for me.
Yes, I've just reviewed that thread -- I see that I posted there, agreeing that an HD guide (as I phrased it) would be much nicer. Although, I don't see why a choice of graphic resolutions would need to be offered. The HR20 should always give the best resolution it can. It already has the means to scale the guide for various aspects and resolutions, so scaling a high graphic resolution guide for SD display should be no problem.
If the higher resolution leads to a situation where smaller fonts can be used which are not legible at lower resolutions, then there could be options for changing the font size.
Smaller font with more lines of text in the grid guide would be in my top 5 enhancements I'm sure. It's downright silly with the 5 to 6 inch high characters on my screen .
My thought has been, and continues to be, that if smaller fonts are less visible on smaller TVs then so be it. Why should people with >32" TVs (a segment rapidly increasing) be punished with a loss of real estate? Folks I'm pretty blind without my glasses and I still think the fonts should be smaller.
Nobody should be punished. Thats why it should be a choice or at least scalable based on the size of your TV.
I don't see an HD version coming any time soon (probably never on the current hardware) but even a true 16x9 version instead of a stretched 4x3 would be an improvement. Has anybody ever seen a DVR with an HD overlay?
I would love to see this - especially if it meant extended Guide data. I would like to see 3 hours and at least 12 channels in the Guide.
I also would love to see this...
A nice stop-gap would be to make the [HD] icon in the guide smaller - if you have an HDTV (and thus care about that icon), you'll still be able to see a tinier one. A half-hour show with the HD icon and the "..." at the end of the title only leaves a couple letters of the title.
Ideally, I'd like to see a choice of font size and number of hours to display in the guide - wide screen users should be able to comfortably show another hour of programming data on the screen.
I would love to see this. This would allow for more than one channel to be seen on the on screen guide.
When I use BeyondTV on the ole PC, it gives the user options to change the grid to show a few hours and stations of programming or more hours and more channels. Even the guide it uses on the internet gives you this option. If a $70 DVR program can get it done, D* certainly should be able to. The font sizes change as the grid sizes changes (also, as you shrink and scale in windowed mode...so do the font sizes as well).
My opinion: This is a personally preference and should be treated as such. Give people the option. Setup a default for those that don't like to tinker, but give us all the options possible, so we can make it just right for us, as individuals.
What would be really great? Personal logons with personal settings and preferences. Would it not be great to login with a code and have the preferences you like set. No entering in lock out codes when you change to a channel that you have parentally locked and the channels only your spouse watches don't show up in the guide (I know you can setup the channel thing...but only a couple of them). Add different color schemes..like you use to be able to do...a really personalized DVR. You can get to all the images you want...why not be able to use some are backgrounds and such.
Edit: Oh yeah...and a single button push to logout to the default settings.
My opinion...that's all.
I thought I would bring this thread back to life............
High Resolution Guide is something I would love to see. Soon all channels will be HD, the guide should be also. Good topic, hope to hear that its in the works.
They could utilize it with some really neat features, look what happened to cnbc when they launched their hd channel.
gotta have it!
I'm not sure if this was asked and answered, but would the HR2X processors, across all of the various manufacturer models, support high-res graphics?
