the bottom line is WHERE THEY PUT THE CHANNEL IS STUPID , STUPID, STUPID to begin with..
which genius thought that one up? and is he working for Burger King this morning..?

this is the type of channel that everyone wants to hear for an occation.. fourth of July.. Christmas.. what ever.. don't be putting it in a mode that you have to have PREMIRE to get the stupid thing.. or have to upgrade a dish for SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR..

and again.. which brainiac thought the placement up?

it makes Directv look incompetent.. and Petty..

    Petty? Seriously?

How do you know it doesn't have something to do with the engineering reasons and that there is a time table to where it is?

What if there are sound reasons for this?

Or are you trying to tell us that you know why these channels are where they are and those reasons aren't sound?

Well, I guess one can argue all day on whether this channel belongs in a tier or not.... But for me it was pretty simple:

I am paying for 12+ music channels, I cannot receive with the equipment that was originally installed, along with several TV channels that I also pay for but am not receiving.

If a customer has paid for HD, and pays for a certain package, an installer should install the right LNB from the get-go, and not install a cheaper one in hopes that clients won't notice. In other words: Someone that ordered Choice Ultimate (which contains music channels not available in Choice, or Choice extra), and also has ordered HD services, should get a Dish that will receive all channels in the Choice Ultimate package, even if it is "just a few music channels" and "an odd religious station here and there".

Either that, or they re-organize their satellites so that a 3 LNB dish can receive EVERY channel a Choice Ultimate subscriber pays for.

Since they shut down G4, I really dont know why they dont move those 119 music channels to the slot G4 was using on 101...but hey, Im not a rocket scientist.
I also swear I saw that Free Speech TV channel was added to D12. If thats the case, then NONE of the non-HD subscribers except in mpeg4 lil markets will be able to watch this SD channel.

Coincidentally, I tried it yesterday....with my 5LNB dish, I could not get the Free Speech TV channel on my SD receiver, but that one might not be able to do MPEG4. I just got that one as an extra, since it was free as the 3d receiver when I signed up ;) - It is hooked up to my TV card in my PC in the office.

I did not try it on my HR24 and H20 receivers.

The understanding I have is that FSTV is only available on the HD receivers (which is slightly retarded as far as I'm concerned).

Well, you may be correct. However, I would love to know what those sound reasons are. It seems ridiculous to those of us who've thought through it and can't come up with a valid reason why they should segment it by satellite in this manner. They probably do have a valid reason, I just can't imagine what it would be.

I have the 5 lnb, but wan't getting 815 due to my package. I think I had choice, with free Starz for three months, getting the HBO?cinemax 2 for 1, and was paying for Showtime. I called to complain why I wasn't getting 815, and the rep said I needed to upgrade to the extra, for $5 more. She then said I would get 14 additional channels. I asked what they were, and of course she said Encore, TMC, etc. I told her I already got those!. Anyway, hung up, called back, and asked for retention. I calmly explained that I thought it was crazy to pay an extra $5 for a music channel. She then proceeded to give me a $10 credit for a year, but upgraded me to the extra package. So the net result is I get the channel for $5 less.

Oh goodness... it's the middle of November... I'd happily pay extra to NOT get any holiday music anywhere for at least another couple of weeks or so ;)

but the real bottom line is this.. Directv has now changed like three or four times , its music provider.. but never, ever, unless you wanted Spanish speaking only, did you have to pay more for a music channel.. now they want to stick you.. for a channel, that you may only listen to for 30 days.. and yet give you channels, like hard , street funk, that has cursing and swearing in it, that YOU WILL NEVER LISTEN TO..

so basically.. here is a nice , or what most people would consider as a nice channel. something your kids can listen to , AND THEY WANT YOU TO PAY EXTRA FOR IT.. or you can get something that's not family friendly for free..

think about that. and what it says about Directv..

Hey.. you want family friendly.. good PAY EXTRA FOR IT..

shouldn't that be the other way around?

Regardless which package you subscribe to you always have the means at your disposal to make your viewing and listening "family friendly" without paying extra for it. It's called Parental Control Settings and Channel Blocks!

As I said in the other thread you started, it has nothing to do with "family friendly". And with such tirades as yours, I am starting to wonder whether you are "friendly" at all. ;)

But that is besides the point. The point that you are missing however, is that DirecTV will make the holiday channel available to ALL packages, and place it on a satellite that EVERYONE can receive, (101) some time right before or right after Thanksgiving.

So you don't HAVE to pay extra for anything, the channel will be provided to you at no extra cost whatsoever!

If you do want the "old" channels back by the way, you could subscribe to Sirius or XM Radio, and get a home-radio that can receive the channels. You can then connect that to your home stereo, and pipe it throughout the house.... I know from my car that the several Holiday channels that they provide - 2 so far, the other 2 will start in early december - have already started.

There are also free alternatives. A simple Google search will give you dozens of Christmas Radio stations online, and a $4.95 cable will hook up your laptop or computer to any stereo with red/white line-in plugs.

I know it is different then last year, but at least they will have 1 Holidays station and it will be free to everyone.

That's not at all true. As you can see in the attached channel lineup from 2004 and 2007, you had to pay extra for some Non-Spanish music channel. This is only one example but IIRC, it's been pretty much standard practice.

After 9 pages of posts about no Holiday Music, I just have one question. Do any of you have any other electronic equipment, such as an FM tuner in your home theater system to listen to holiday music? After Thanksgiving hits, I find that there are so many radio stations playing holiday music, its hard to get away from it.

I think DIRECTV is more for watching TV shows, sporting events and movies. If all you want is sound, you could use your FM Receiver, internet radio, CD player or mp3 player for that. I would rather see one more new HD channel, instead of all the radio stations any day.

but for those of us that don't have the setup to receive 119, what if they put stuff there in the future? Then those of us with 3 lnb would be giving D* hell for not giving us the 5 lnb to start with.

Well, there ya go, a great point. When I have my Christmas party I'll have a a rather long play list on a disk that will play on my Blu-Ray. I prefer that for a party.

We also have radio stations that start playing holiday music right after Thanksgiving. I'm pretty sure most places have one in there areas.

However, I can understand the frustration with needing one of the two top packages to get the Sonic Tap holiday channel, and even if you do, still not getting it because it's on 119°.

I enjoy the convenience and lack of commercials that the music channels offer. Put simply, I think it stinks when something that you enjoy is taken away from you, assuming that you don't subscribe to the higher tier.
