Same thing here... However I particularly don't care to watch daytime (morning/afternoon) KPIX as nothing is in HD - so I get the stretch-o thing; and that stupid CBS Logo that will undoubtedly burn into my LCD ...

But I am impressed that I no longer get any drop-outs; which as I started this thread with, was happening very often until yesterday.

Great Job KPIX and/or D* !!!!!! (I'll email Michael as well.)

Got another email this morning from Michael, wanted to know if last night was okay. They need to give this guy a raise for being so accessible! I confessed I didn't have any shows that I watch so I couldn't help, but will be watching P.C. later today to see if it 'sticks'. Yeah it's in SD.. and I use the pill box so I get black bars on the sides.. but it doesn't bug me that much. (I had been dealing with S-video hookups for so long on a old CRT set that it looks 'great' to me now that I have a LCD and HDMI. )

It looks like DTV moved the drops out from CBS5 to ABC7 last night. Both Cavemen and Carpoolers had audio drop outs on my HR20 and Cavemen only recorded about half the show.

Edited to change: HR10 to HR20

Yeah.. I noticed that too. Don't watch Cavemen, but at the very end of CarPoolers (FUNNY) there was a single audio drop including a video glitch. I was hoping it was just a random one.. but I wouldn't put it past D* from moving a bad component over to a different feed. :nono2: Have to see if it continues.

In one rerspect I'm glad it's not an issue with the HR20. This leaves a general problem with all of D* local broadcasts though. This single issue pisses me off more then any other with D*. Last year I had drop outs on almost every program I watched. It didn't matter if it was HD or SD, recorded or watched live. It wasn't allways like this. I can remember when D* was the best looking, best sounding singnal around, period. Wake up D*, your signal is the pits. Sorry to vent.

I must profess that it definitely is better (for us) as of Tuesday. CBS had been unwatchable for 2 weeks. It seems tolerable - the the little that we watch KPIX/BS anyway since most of the daytime shows are not HD. (And they wonder why people don't watch KPIX or Katie Courec (sp?) for the evening news) ..... it's the lack of HD stupid ...

Watching Peoples Court as I post this and it certainly has not been fixed! In fact we have some new problems. The picture is breaking up constantly with lines of data corruption. Additionally, the audio isn't getting cut off completely for 3-5 seconds, but it does jitter and warble a bit with the video corruption.

I haven't bothered to call D* due to the CS drones will just file the complaint or tell me it's my end. The KPIX Director of Engineering seems to be more on top of it and I have faith that he'll do better dealing with D*.

If the picture is breaking up as well (pixilization), that is differnent than the Audio dropout issue. What this thread started as was Audio-only dropout while the picture appears perfect. If you're getting BOTH at the same time, then that is likely a total signal loss/interference thing ... and can be caused by many different things.

Am I the only one with this new video problem currently? Can someone check that channel and post?

More Audio-only dropouts this morning at 8:00 AM ... Email received from KPIX Engineering at 5:30 PM Wed.:

"We were making internal adjustments to the HD transmission path that caused the picture breakup you just saw.
DirectTV has dispatched a tech to visit their head-end site here in SF.
I'm hoping that he will make some progress this afternoon/this evening.
In the meantime, we're seeing picture breakup on our HD-DirectTV receiver, but not from our over the air receiver."

Afternoon SD was unwatchable yesterday. Judge Judy's video was skipping out of sync. I even saw a video and audio drop out during Letterman's show when Jimmy Walker was on. Sigh.. getting more and more upset about this. I'm paying more then $700 a year for this??? :nono:

Not in KPIX's defense, but the issue being addressed is specifically the MPEG4 with LILs .. and Audio-only dropouts (the Video will be fine) ... FYI, I watched Judge Judy in its entirity yesterday without any problems at all - via the MPEG4 LIL signal.

I'm by no means an Engineer, but if you get BOTH Audio & Video dropping out (pixillation), then there can be a host of other issues regarding that. (e.g., reduced signal strength, storms, interference, cables, etc.)

received an update from KPIX (CBS) SF Engineering today:

"We believe the problem is most likely caused by something in the DirectTV path. Their tech was in town yesterday and stated that our transmission was clean to their receivers. "

What ever it is, It was happening during the 11 o'clock news on the HD feed of KGO 7. Sharp noise then an audio drop that lasted about 4 to 5 seconds. It seemed to happen twice during that broadcast. This is on an HR20-700.

Things seem to have improved. I haven't seen an Audio dropout on KPIX for a couple of days now ... the few hours that I actually tune into KPIX anyway...

    Anyone else see improvements????
