How do my DVRs differ?

Sorry for this very basic question...

I have the following HD DVRs:
    HR22/100
    HR21/200
    HR21/200

My question is how do these boxes differ? Is any one version considered better (faster, more stable, etc.) than another?

The 22 has a 500GB and the 21s have 320GB hard drive. The 100 is made by RCA and the 200 Samsung. Some will say the 21 is slower, but those 3 boxes you have a basically identical except for the HDD.

Those 22-100s have been made by so many different manufacturers that it's hard to keep up with them. The whole 100 series has had, I'm guessing here, 5 or 6 different manufacturers. The new 100s are being made by Technicolor. Prior to that, it was Audiovox, Thomson, etc.

I'm pretty sure the 21-200s are more reliable than the 22-100s. Been my experience, anyhow. The 22-100 is just a 21-100 with a 500GB HDD.

I've never had either the 22-100 or the 21-200 opened up, but I really doubt that they are identical.

Actually, rich584, it's not so much the manufacturer as the name that has changed. Thomson, Audiovox, RCA, and Technicolor are simply new names for the same group of engineers and factories.

Thanks for the info. I have the HR22/100 in my kitchen (not much recording), and the HR21/200 in my home theater (the vast majority of recording). I should switch the locations to get the larger hard drive to my home theater.

Is there any way to transfer the hard drive contents of the HR21/200 to the HR22/100 (I'm not ready to do the MRV upgrade yet)?

There is no way to do this. Even if you moved the physical hard drive the recordings would be unplayable.

Thanks Stuart. I guess I will go for an MRV upgrade at some point. Then the hard drive sizes of the different DVRs will be much less of an issue.

I was considering an upgrade to the new HR24, but after reading all the issue posts I may just keep what I've got.

Actually there are certainly people with issues but there are a lot more who remain silently happy.

I don't understand. I always thought they were separate and distinct companies.

What issues? I guess I'll have to read that thread. Mine works almost (audio dropouts, minor annoyance) perfectly. Those 24s should blow that 22 away.

RCA products were made by Thomson for many years. A year or so ago that operation was purchased by Audiovox. Then it was made part of Technicolor (also owned by Audiovox).

In fact it's the same company, and it keeps swallowing other ones.

bcab, if you get the chance to get rid of the HR21's and replace it with an HR24, you won't believe the speed difference. I keep my 21 only because it is so quiet, I can keep it in the bedroom and never hear a noise from it so I put up with the slowness.
