I keep reading, on one forum or another that DirecTV is down-converting its HD programming to no more than 1280X1080i, or thereabouts. My question concerns the future; not the present.

DirecTV says that they will have 100 or more national MPEG4 HD channels within a year, more or less, plus locals. My question is: what will happen to channels originating in the highest of HD -- 1920X1080i? Will these channels be "dumbed down", or will cusomers with good equipment (large screens, etc.) be ableto receive 1920X1080i? Also, what about the future -- 1929X1080p?
