The only out of market station the significantly viewed list has for your county is WPVI. Even if DirecTV were to offer neighboring locals for your county, the other stations would need to get added to the list for your county first.

This is the company they claim they have the contract with.

I am very familiar with Nexstar. I will reach out to WNBC anyways to see what they tell me. Their agreement if with anyone should be with NBC. I don't really know why they would have any agreement with an out of market affiliate unless it was both party's agreeing to not allow SV stations within their own DMA's. I will let you know what they say. I do think getting the SV stations from the largest DMA in the country into a smaller DMA is a huge challenge. We'll see I guess.

The first thing to note is that Cable companies have the ability to offer an out of market station even if it is not considered significantly viewed and satellite does not. I see where someone else posted that most of the stations you were after were not on the list (significantly viewed) and would have to apply for that status and it be granted before DirecTV would even be in a position do offer them.

As long as Nielsen surveys show that most area viewers choose to shop in (and watch TV originating in) NYC, that's what DMA it will remain in.

Yeah but that does not mean it would not be possible to get some Significantly Viewed stations from Philly if they were on the list and an agreement was met.

If that's true, why do I get it in the Hartford dma as significantly viewed?

Maybe nobody in New York protested. Aren't most of the NYC stations network O&O?

Remember that DIRECTV has to strike kind of a three-way agreement with the DMA station as well as the SV station.

You seem to be of a mind that:

    1. Agreements are trivial and the official DMA station didn't demand an exclusive.

    2. The Philly spot covers all of your market.

I'm not sure either of these is easy to confirm.

That was addressed a few pages back, with a link to the FCC filing. In WTNH's case they had to file with the FCC and get WABC removed from the significantly viewed list for the disputed counties before they could force them to drop WABC. WABC actually fought back and WTNH only got some of the towns removed.
Significantly viewed stations are done per county or in some cases per town. Considering that these are neighboring locals, usually in counties that border the other DMA, you are likely within the spot beam for it as the strength doesn't just suddenly drop to zero on the border.

It's easy to find out if you're within the spot beam via the signal strength menu for the transponder by comparing it to the latest spreadsheet:

how come our local ,next to awful, tv cable provider, can offer all these channels but D* cannot? it doesn't make any sense to me.. not only the direct LaCrosse, channels but Rochester, Austin / Albert Lee and Minneapolis as well.. shouldn't D* be outright competing wth this extremely small provider..

    Directv is no Competition.
Directv Slams this Crappy Cable company.

I will take Directvs Equipment, Channel Line up and HD offering over their 4 Extra SV locals anyday!

Our Blue Ridge Cable puts that cable company to shame.

Basically because Directv isn't allowed to play by the same rules that the cable companies are. Blame your congressman. They are the ones that made the rules. Perhaps (?) money had something to do with it?

Blame the NCTA and the NAB as they are the ones that "educate" (lobby) your congressman to use the government to "level" the competition.

As long as you can say that with confidence about everyone in your area, you have a leg to stand on (not that it will get you anywhere).

True, it is the lobbyists that are at the heart of the issue. They should be outlawed completely. They are one of the biggest reasons our country is in the situation it is. Hence my money comment.
