I have a wireless network with a LinkSys wireless-G broadband router. I have several devices connected to my DSL connection with this router with no issues. I configured a WGA54G through my router, picking an available IP address and the same settings as my other PCs (in terms of DNS, gateway, WEP encryption settings, etc.)

    192.168.1.250
    255.255.255.0
    192.68.1.1
64.83.1.10 (DNS for Cavalier Telephone's DSL)

When I connected the WGA54G to my HR20-700, it tells me that my network connection is okay, but it can't connect to the internet. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

can you get into the settings for
that wireless adaptor...if so is there
a setting to have the device it is
connected to's mac addr to auto, manual or disable...
    set that to auto

I recommend turning clone mode OFF on the game adapter. That is only needed for a xbox and give a separate IP to the HR20.

    192.168.1.250 for the game adapter
    192.168.1.251 for the HR20

Set it up something like this...
Use the same DNS and gateway for both.
I also recommend using the router IP address which for the DNS and gateway which may be 192.168.1.1.

Click on the network help link in my signature for details about network configurations.

if this wireless adapter is anything like my wet54g
this will work if you are still using the hr20-100 with
the latest NR release...but if for some reason you need to
reset the receiver then it will lock up on you....
i dl'd the ce this past weekend & the UPnP fix they
did fixed my connection...i can reset with no probs now

I assume you allow all outbound connections? No user filters or blocked ports?

Thanks everyone. I've tried every suggestion on this thread - turning off cloning, ensuring all filters are off and ports are unblocked, using the gateway as the DNS, etc. Nothing seems to work, unfortunately...guess I'm out of luck...

    Near San...
If you're using an HR20-100 be sure you're plugging into ethernet port #1... #2 doesn't work. (been there done that :D )

you said that you do have all filtering turned off... but just to make sure... you don't have mac address filtering turned on do you? if so, you will need to allow the mac address of the wga and the hr20

edit: nevermind... you said it is connected to the network... so this wouldn't come into play..

I have the HR20-700 and I have posted else where about this same problem. I have seen others reporting this as well. Here is one of the threads about this.

    http://dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=106889

I haven't seen a resolution yet. My first thought is that they have blocked access except to the boxes that are part of the VOD test. It wouldn't be hard to do. They would only need to do MAC address filtering on their end.

I am part of VOD, but still can't get connected. A packet capture shows no attempt to even access the internet. It appears to be possibly related to 0x1b9.

After reviewing some Wireshark logs, I realized that my wife's laptop was communicating with the HR20 via UPnP. I shut her laptop down and tried connecting to the internet again and it worked like a charm. The traffic was logged by my firewall....

It looks like there was some sort of handshake between her laptop and the HR20 every four minutes. Once the laptop was shut down, everything worked great.

I'm using an HR20-700, with software version 1B4, and there is no MAC filtering on my wireless router (don't have that enabled.)

This thread discusses the exact problem I'm having -- and the suggested resolutions in that thread yield the same results. I'm also getting error code 22 (next to the message saying that the HR20 is not connected to the internet) - and would like to know what that means.

Based on others having identical issues, it looks like this could be a software problem with the HR20-700 as opposed to a problem with my configuration.

Whenever I had seen this with DSL it was a DNS problem. What are your exact network settings on the HR20? I will be doing this in a week or so myself so it is good to know myself what to do :)

I'm having the same problem with the NR so it's not just 1b9...
