Please let the end of the HR20-700 lead to more CEs for the hundrednation. Heck, ANY CEs.

That CSR was talking out of his ____. D* has never been able to guarantee model numbers on installs. The best they can do is make a note on the order, but its not 100% honored. Contracted installers have a small supply to use, and they eat up their inventory before they get new product. It really all depends on your installers amount of inventory retention. I'm willing to bet if you called back a total of 10 times as a new customer, you;d get something like a 30/70 split on that promise. The only way to know 100% what you are getting is to buy it retail.... which is silly since you can get a deal for being a customer.

Wait, after all of the work to get the HR20 almost working, they're discontinuing it? Does D* have something against working DVR's? TiVo worked great, so out it went. Now the HR20 - 700 works pretty well, so its gotta go!

If the HR-21s don't have OTA, there are going to be a lot of very vocal, very unhappy D* customers.

Let's not go too far with this....it makes perfect sense that you can't be sure whether you will get a -100 or -700, however, it is not legitimate to substitute an HR21 for either model of HR-20, as it has no OTA tuner. That is a complete change in functionality.

If I order (and I did) an HR20, I expect either an HR20-700 or HR20-100, and I hope you aren't saying that D* is perfectly free to substitute a non-OTA HR21 on my order. That is way over the line of "flexibiility". I agreed to pay for an HR20, not an HR21.

Wait a minute...the HR21's don't have OTA and will never have OTA. That ain't the issue. The issue was dropping the HR20 series completely, leaving us with a need/desire to record OTA-HD, out in the cold.

It doesn't matter if the HR21 doesn't have OTA (and it most certainly does not). What matters is the availability of an HD-DVR that does retain OTA. I don't care what model number it is, HR20-700, HR20-100, HRWhoCares-xxx, just so it has OTA.

As long as there is an HR-20 "like" receiver available that we can order at a similar price, there is no reason whatsoever for "very vocal, very unhappy D* customers".

    Your source is wrong.

Not to throw Solidsignal under the bus, but they claimed that the D12 was discontinued as well. So...

Thanks for the suggestions you all. I realize the heat problem, but so far it has stayed at 125 on the dot. (I just added that in, so I would get a response :D)

But, yeah, this thing is too loud to leave out in the open. It's louder than my fridge, It's going back for a 100 before they run out.

Or should I get a another 700? thanks!

The HR20-700 was the Tivo HR10-250 killer, but stay tuned...
The witch next store to me said that Tivo is working with DTV on a new
    Tivo-HD. Tivo4PRO-HD will be the HR20-700 killer!!!!

All joking aside,,, The HR20,21, ETC... are old news anyway. Your average unit is
only good for a year until the the new kid comes to town..

No, the HR20-100 uses a Western Digital drive, the HR20-700 uses a Seagate. The W-D is far quieter than the Seagate during seeks. It's like night and day.

I have had 2 HR20-700's for over a year, and they only sound like an unplugged fridge (no sound). :D

I think that (like PC's, you just get one every once in a while with a defective Hard Drive - the result of mass production. Unfortunate, but a reality. Odds are if it is quiet the first week you have it, it'll stay that way...

That's cool! Mine was a beast. I already have another HR20 on the way. I requested a 100, as someone said their's was quiet, but can't be sure which one will ship out.

At least I won't have a board over the top anymore. :nono:

I think that the -100 could be quieter if the fan isn't running but from what I've seen the opinion on which is quieter seems to run 50/50.
