MAYBE AND ISSUE, MAYBE NOT: Loss of video signal while audio continues

WHAT HAPPENED: Lost video out while audio continued. This is a somewhat odd one that I wanted to list even though I won't be able to give much more info until later today.

Since I've had to do a bunch of resets in the last day and since every time I've tried I've been unable to do a menu reset because the box has refused to accept the confirming Dash command, I decided to try a GUI reset today via Slingbox while the box appears to be in a completely healthy state, just to see if it would work. I am happy to report that it worked normally this morning. After restarting, the box continued began displaying audio and video from the previous channel, CNNHD.

A few minutes later I heard a story I was interested in and brough Slingplayer to the forefront only to find he message that there was no video signal detected. Audio continued, however. I tried changing channels and got audio from the new channels I tried, but still no picture. I remotely power-cycled the box but still no video signal from the Slingbox, only audio. Very odd.

It occurred to me that this is probably while the housecleaner is at the house this morning and that a cable may have been dislodged, but at the same time, that has NEVER happened in years of using the same housecleaner, so I don't think that's it. It's also possible the Slingbox itself needs to be restarted. I will investigate further and report back if this remains a real issue.

HR21 is system 3 in sig

    1) it's been raining here and I experienced some rain fade on my locals. The locals came back up on the HR20, but the HR21 just stayed frozen on the last image for WVUE ch 8 (mpeg4) (I didn't note which tuner it was searching for signal on). When I changed channels, the mpeg4 locals came up on the other tuner, but as I sequenced through, the affected tuner only displayed a black screen.

    2) decided to do a system test. Both tuners reported as OK with 78% signal (obviously both were locked on to a local mpeg4) but the network and internet connections failed. Only thing I can think of on the network end is that my computer had locked up earlier and I had to force a restart, so maybe the HR21 didn't like that. Both tuners were now working.

    3) Went to do a menu restart to resolve the network issues, but the system never responded to the "-". Had to RBR.

    All's well after RBR

ISSUE: Loss of video during reboot

DESCRIPTION: When rebooting the HR21 connected via HDMI to an LG LCD TV Model 32LC7D there are moments when the image blacks out.

    1) Right before "Step 1 of 2: Checking Satellite Settings / This will take a few minutes", the screen blacks out for several seconds, resulting in the TV displaying "No Signal" followed immediately by "Invalid Format". Looks like during this transition period the HR21 is not sending output via HDI, and then it does send it, but at that point the "format" of the signal is bad.

    2) Right before "Step 1 of 2: Checking Satellite Settings / Almost Done", the screen blacks out momentarily, but there is no notice from the TV about "no signal" or "invalid format" - in other words, there's still signal over HDMI, but it's sending a black screen during this transition.

I think it's safe now that I'm back home in Dallas to say that I did not get the upgrade. History says the upgrade was successful on 10/5 but I'm still running 192.

I tried this same search on my HR21 and it brought it up correctly. I searched my title and it found 2 of them. The first one said it was on 282 Animal Planet HD and the second choice was the SD. Version.

Is that how you are doing your search?

Problem today which may or may not be related to 0x103: I was watching an SD program on channel 376 and all of a sudden I got a 771 - searching for satellite on 2. I tried switching channel to a local and that worked but whenever I switched back to 376, I got the 771 message.

I went into Setup, then Satellite and view signal strength and then to signal strength meters. I got 0 signal strength on tuner 2 on all satellites and transponders. I could not schedule two recordings at the same time.

I then tried switching cables on the back of the HR21 and the zero signal strength stayed with the tuner 2 input, it did not follow the cable.

I did a menu reset and it did not restore the signal to tuner 2.

I did an RBR and it seems fine now. Signal strength is normal on both tuners and I can start two recordings at the same time.
IMO, I lost tuner 2 for some reason but it seems to be working again. As I stated, it may or may not be related to the firmware.

Some of you may recall my complaints about manual recordings showing as "No information available". I was delighted to see the three manual recordings from last Thursday (0192) showing with correct titles after rebooting to 0103.

I was much LESS delighted this evening to discover that all three recordings disappeared from the List - the history says that they were deleted due to "error in guide data". I had not actually tried to play these yet, but how could the box delete recordings after they were made for "guide data errors"????

Yes, I can't wait until the HR21 gets the search interface that the HR20 has in the current CE. It's so much better!

This is what I get when I do the same search.

I took it with my cell phone so it is kind of blurry. ;)

 If I pressed select on one of them it goes to the Series Link setup. Is that what you are talking about?

Okay, finally had a chance to review things at home: disregard that last possible issue I posted earlier about loss of video while watching via Slingbox from work today - turns out the video cable had become dislodged from the back of the HR21, probably due to a cat climbing around behind the TV. Oops. :)

Looking at your picture more carefully, it looks like the HR20's Search interface. Is that actually a shot of your HR21?
