Several and they all recorded fine. Most of the time when I have a recording be canceled it was always at 2am. That doesn't happen all of the time.

I checked the history on it last night and everything said recorded and it powered on fine last night and also today.

thats what I was expecting.. I'm thinking some of the lockups might be because nothing (no recordings or channel changes) is part or the lockups..

It would appear there's some merit to your theory.

I did 18 hour and 24 hour tests the past 3 days, with no channel changes or recordings each time. In both cases, the unit was left on the entire time.

Findings - both times it resulted in a frozen (locked up) screen and discombobulated audio (I love that word). :eek2:

During a period in between the 2 sessions, I did both recording and also channel changing over about 12 hours - no lockups. :)

However, the plot thickens...all this doesn't explain why within 4 hours after the original 16C rollout completed here, I scheduled a program, it recorded for 3 hours, and then locked up.

There's more to this puzzle yet to be uncovered....

I've now run a 4th test - this one for 12 hour standby or 12 hour "left on" wiht no activity at all....no recording....no viewing...nothing...just left dormant for that period of time.

    Lockups in both cases.

The "16x" series code is the first one I've seen so far that has had this problem, but it continues. Never had it happen with prvious versions until 16A-16C came out.

once rebooted, everything works fine, and as long as I use it (as long as 9-10 hours at a time, no lockups or problems....so its related to the dormancy timeframe.

At this point, I'm hoping a new CE comes soon so it is corrected.

If mine wasn't my primary (living room) HD DVR I'd help you test, but it sounds like you have an excellent working hypothesis. Hopefully the coders and s/w engineers can figure out what's leaking memory or working itself into an unrecoverable condition over such an extended period of idle time. Good job.

Well, one last issue - I hope.

I went to set a series link after selecting "more info" on a show title from the Info Banner and selecting "episodes". However, I could only set an individual recording by pressing "R", pressing a second time cleared the recording. I had to go into the "Rec. Series" menu to setup a SL. There was also a long delay between pressing "R", the progress indicator, and the recording being set or cleared.

    Followup questions:

-) Did this occur on any other software version? Or just 0x16C
-) What is the operating environment? Is the box parking on a live channel? Does the box have record activity on another channel?
-) What exact HD local channel did it occur on? Did it happen on any of the national HD channels, or the SAT SD channels?
-) Is the problem shown consistently? If not, how long can the problem be replicated? Do we need to do any specific operation?
-) Did you try changing channels to recover the audio?
-) Did you happen to check other audio outputs?

Just 0x16c - I have not seen this issue on any other version

-) What is the operating environment? Is the box parking on a live channel? Does the box have record activity on another channel?

Box is in a bedroom, hooked up to a Vizio VX32L through HDMI. I was watching a different channel (don't remember which one) and switched to this HD local. There was no audio when I went to it. The box was not recording anything at the time.

-) What exact HD local channel did it occur on? Did it happen on any of the national HD channels, or the SAT SD channels?

It was on channel 31 (KDVR local FOX) HD. It has not happened on any national HD channels or any SAT SD channels.

-) Is the problem shown consistently? If not, how long can the problem be replicated? Do we need to do any specific operation?

It has not recurred, and I have not been able to replicate it.

-) Did you try changing channels to recover the audio?

Yes, it was not effective. (Audio was fine on other channels.)

-) Did you happen to check other audio outputs?

    No.

Earl - I just noticed this. The same thing happened to me Monday night recording Heroes. It was so odd and didn't seem to affect overall operation of the box that I started a new thread in the programming forum about loss of audio on the Nashville MPEG4 NBC affiliate, WSMV ch. 4. I got responses indicating it was NOT a problem with the local, so I reported it in this thread Tuesday at some point. I did try changing channels and discovered it was limited to that one channel, which made me think it was a problem with locals. I also tried to restart the recording from the playlist from the start, but nothing worked to get sound back. I switched to the SD version of the channel and allowed the recording to continue to check later. The subsequent recording of Journeyman on the same HD channel had the same issue. At the time, I also had a scheduled recording of Star Trek Enterprise going on HDNet. I canceled that recording, and the subsequent scheduled recording on the same channel, to switch to and remain on the SD local to watch Heroes and Journeyman.

I did NOT do an RBR and the next morning, audio on all channels/tuners seemed to be fine, even the affected channel, but the recordings of both programs from the HD local had no audio. As I recall, the DD indicators were NOT lit on my AV receiver during the shows or the recordings, but I could be wrong. I have since deleted them. This problem has not recurred to my knowledge, though I have not watched every single recording made since then. It never occurred before 0x16C and hasn't recurred since.
