I'm surprised no one has started such a thread yet so I will.

Yes, I know we have a comparision thread but that seems to be geared more towards the construction of the unit. What I'm listing is more OS/Performance related.

This is what I've noticed so far that I see as an improvement over the HR20:

    - LED for Record/Phone is correct. Meaning it's Red for record and Yellow when using the phone.

    - Much faster menus [This is after having the unit running for 24 hours. I saw no improvement last night however I see great improvement now that it's acquired all it's guide data]

    - Much faster Guide and Playlist

    - Much more responsive to remote [Harmony 880 in my case]

    - Trickplay works great! [Yes, I know the HR20 is getting improvements on this tonight so we'll see if it is as smooth as the HR21 in a bit]

    - Network Logon message when ViiV server logs on is correct [May have to do with Media Bridge software]

I'll bet when the new GUI comes up it'll be the same as it is now. We didn't get the bad grammar until the new GUI.

To add to everyone else, the black box looks cool.

Heck yeah! Mrs. Lefty wants to get an XBox 360 Elite to replace our current one so that all our components will be black - it sure is tough being married to a sexy gadget freak. :D

    - MPEG4 HD channels not pixelating when resuming play from PAUSE or FFW mode (unlike on either of my HR20s)

    - INFO & TEST screen pops-up in about three seconds (fast!)

Positive. Mine is red when recording and yellow when it makes a call. It's not as bright red as on the HR20, but it is red.

Here are the record lights side by side. The pic makes the HR21's look dark orange, but in person it's red.

It could be just darker tint on the record window. I think it's a mix between red and yellow.

I like the fact that the recording LED isn't so darn bright!

And the blue rings! I don't dim them on my other ones but the film around the ring on the HR21 is very nice.

I like the bright blue in my HR20 but I know I'm in the tiny minority. One improvement to me is the fact that it runs 4 degrees cooler than my HR20 in the same exact spot. That's got to be a good thing.

My HR21 recording light is orange, versus yellow on the HR20.

They also have dimmed the blue lights on the H21, so it seems that they took our complaints to heart.

    Teays...
Especially at the 4x speed. It "only" jumps in 1-2 minute increments vs. the 3-5 minute increments on my HR20's. Still a vast improvement.

    Ahh...

On the HR20-100... the color's match between the HR21-700 and HR20-100

Yeah, they are very close. The pinhole opening on my HR20-100 is so small I can barely see the light at times.

I may wind up putting my HR20-100 with the HR21-700 in the living room just so they match up. Frosted ring, etc.

    Lower...
Perhaps the newer Broadcom processor offers better MPEG-4 hardware decoding?

You guys are running the same 0x168 s/w as the HR20-700 did, I assume? Only difference is h/w? /s
