I will say this. I got very lucky during two tech visits and ended up with two HR-24's that were no refurbs. I was kind of shocked. So now I have one HR-21 and two HR-24's. The 24's are so much better! Very little to NO lag whatsoever on both of them. Reboot is about twice as fast as well it seems to me. It reminds me of when I had DISH a few years ago as their DVR speeds were great.

doesnt matter if he is an employee. I know what I had and what I got. I had 2 R22's and one died on me. They replaced it with a HR21....Directv sent it to me to replace ;)

How many Directv employees does it take.....? Oh never mind.

But seriously, can any of you shed some light on why we repeatedly read here of CSR's promising newer, better, upgraded receivers to hundreds (yes that many) of posters on dbstalk and we know that's normally not likely or possible. With exception of HR34 HMC of course.

100% correct if a tech rolls and customer has an R22 with Hd on the account siebel will fail and not close if you try and swap it with anything other than an HDDVR.

as far as the basic function, there is not much difference between the r22,hr21 and hr24.there are differeces, mainly with the hr24 like hard drive space, built in deca, etc.
i dont know what it is specifically that u want to gain. if its more space on the hard drive u can get an external hard drive and hook it up to the dvr. u can get a 1tb drive for about 100. is some cases that can help with the speed of the unit.

the only reall disadvantage of the r22 is as described before the replacement. since it is a sd receiver. i agree that it is annoying that agents promise a specific model only to get something else. but hey if it was a free upgrade, personally i will still take it.
the system will only see the r22 as a sd unit. so basically will treat it the same as a r16.
in that sense the hr21 is technically an upgrade.

i will agree that over all the hr24 seems to operate a bit better than the older models. but i have heard of people getting slow hr24's, others get fast hr20's.

so if u want to get a hr24, go ahead and get one from solid signal. you'll pay 200 for the unit and still get the 24 month agreement.

btw the only way u can get a hdvr replacement for the r22 is if u live in a mpeg 4 only area.

They don't follow their policies and procedures. Now they could have many reasons such as ignorance, they think that if they notate something it will mandate it, they just assume if they roll the dice that a newer model will get shipped, and mainly just to attempt to appease the person on the phone.

We're talking about 2 different things. Did I ever state anything about handhelds in any of my posts? I am aware of what you're stating and I even know the why of what fails but it's not what I'm talking about. It's also not the policy and just because it may work today doesn't mean it will always be so.

If a HR24 fails, it should be replaced with a HR24. I don't think I've even heard of someone having a defective HR24 replaced with anything else.

I emailed Solid Signal through their contact page over the weekend inquiring about purchasing an HR24-200. I finally received a response last night.

"The 200, 300, 400, etc at the end of the model number simply signifies the manufacturer not the latest model. We get our receivers straight from DirecTV and probably have 50 receivers from each manufacturer on our shelves. Our warehouse would just grab one and send it, they really wouldn’t have the time to sort through 500 receivers to find a specific manufacturer."

Not very good customer service if you ask me. Especially if I am paying for it.

Obviously, I didn't wait for a response to my request through the contact page. I called to order one. I was told all they had were HR24-500's.

    I wonder who is correct?

I don't know of any retailer that guarantees a particular manufacturer. Unless your TV has issues with the -500 color space, which is rare I believe, there is no difference.

It IS the policy for techs, and was communicated via blast facts. That doesn't mean policy won't change in the future.

It simply stated that they would no longer be refurbishing R22s into the field and specified policy on what to replace an R22 with and when.

No HD and no SWM nets an R15 or R16.
No HD with SWM nets an R16.
    HD nets an HD/DVR.

Perhaps both, as I would assume Solid Signal has various model numbers from various manufacturers in stock, although for a specific model number such as HR24 they might only have them from one manufacturer. In other words, they may well have an H25-100 or an HR21-200, etc. The part of your quote that I bolded IS correct.

dont know...Got rid of all my receivers (a R22, HR21 and H23) when I upgraded to the HR34

yes the HR21 and R22 were in the same room and the H23 was there just to get HD on the account when I had the 2 R22's.....the time frame between getting the HR21 and upgrading was like 2 months so no worries there

I agree that it SHOULD be replaced with another HR24. However, our inventory for the last couple of months has been roughly 90% HR21s and HR23s. Needless to say, we occasionally have to swap them with an older model.

I've seen a lot of posts state that if a tech comes out to your house your likely to get hr-24. Do the techs get the new boxes for installs and directv warehouse get refurbs for current customers?

If I receive a -100 I'll be returning it. I have no interest in a noisy fan.
Still waiting for DirecTV to credit me for the free box I was promised.
This whole process is becoming annoying. Maybe I should have cancelled.

I've had three different -100 receivers/DVRs and have never had an issue with them. I definitely have not had an issue with noisy fans in any of them.

It can be reversed actually depending on what is going on at the time. Ultimately it's just up to what gets sent out based on what's in the warehouse. The warehouses give out equipment based on what they have and how long they've had it.
