The drive is a Western Digital WD3200AVJS drive.

According to the website: "Quiet - Noise levels have been minimized to less than one sone* - virtually below the threshold of human hearing."

Drive in the HR20 was the non-AV drive.

The internal temp on mine reads 77deg. My HR20 is always 125-127 deg.

77? Either your air conditioner is blowing right on it or I'd say something is wrong there.

I actually did an experiment with temps here. Since I have 2 HR20-700's, with top vents, I wanted to see if it made a difference with the unit on the top or bottom of a 2 HR20/21 stack.

In my living room I have an HR20-700 on the bottom and the HR21 on the top. Their temps are:

    HR21-700 - 111 Degrees
    HR20-700 - 129 Degrees

In my bedroom I have an HR20-100 underneath a HR20-700 and there is nothing on top of the 700.
    Their temps are:

    HR20-700 - 122 Degrees
    HR20-100 - 102 Degrees

This is after sitting in my place all day at about 85 degrees, I keep the AC off during the day to keep the power bill down, so this is the hottest they would get.

Only a 7 degree difference when the 700 is on the top compared to the bottom of a 2 unit stack.

There's no way I can answer ... I have five DVRs in the TV stand: 1 Cablevision SA8300HD DVR on the left, 2 HR20-700s on the bottom right, and two HR10-250s on the shelf above the HR20s. I have cooling pads on both HR20s and on the SA8300, and I hear the fans from the cooling pads when the TV is off.

Would like to further update the 1st post ... after browsing thru the HR21 improvements thread ...

LED Color for Record: Some have red, some yellow. Assume the same for now?

Faster menus (Guide, Playlist), ...): Some say much better, some say same. Can someone run objective timed tests?

Smoother trickplay: really true? same as above, any objective test? may be harder now to differentiate with x184 much better on HR20 (at least for me).

YESHD no longer pixelates. My HR20 always pixelates coming out of trickplay. Improved by BCM7401?

    Any other differences/improvements?

    Post#1: http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1030127&postcount=1

I also need to update the height/weight ...

Tweaked the first post a little ... http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1030127&postcount=1

    Switched to "Frosted" Blue Circle.

Removed the "no RF" for RC64R

I still need to verify the dimensions/weight. Will do.

Will hold off speed comparision until we have some real data with a later software level

Added "external" for "no external RF antenna"

Will continue to add any other differences/enhancements hardware and/or software found.

Figure this is just the "net" comparison while Drew and team working on the "descriptive" comparison in the other thread.

Thanks for catching that. I remember seeing the 3-prong but it never registered to add it to chart ... now added ...

Also, gonna add something about ethernet controller once spanky and crew figure out the differences (and capabilities)

The Sat1 and sat2 connectors have reversed positions as compared to the HR20-700. The back of mine is not very visible and I have to connect the cables by feel. I was wondering why I couldn't get any sat reception. Then I pulled it out and found the connctor positions were switched. Duh!!!

    Thanks, updated.

Also, added difference in label on Sat-1:

Input - Satellite: Sat-1 (on left with label "SWM-2"), Sat-2 (on right) - HR20-700 was opposite, HR20-100 was top/bottom, label is different then both

Also now updated post into Internal, External, ...

    Measured HR20-700 ... got 2 3/4" H x 15 1/8" W x 12 1/4" D.

Seems like HR21 is slightly deeper, not taller, maybe hair wider.

Anybody have exact measurement of HR20-100?

The feet on the HR21 must be taller then, because mine was noticeably taller than my HR20-700 when I had them sitting side by side on a flat surface during my install. Wasn't much - maybe a quarter of an inch or less - but it was noticeable.

Lefty, please measure your HR21 when you get a chance.

I measured the HR20-700 from the table-top surface to the top of the HR20-700 including the feet. Was 2 3/4" surface to top of HR20-700. Just measured again.

Anyone with a HR20-100, please post dimensions.

I was using dimensions from tfederov post: http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1030787&postcount=22

    Not yet a lucky HR21 CE'er. :(

More accurate HR21 dimensions welcome :)

    And HR20-100 dimensions.

    HR20-700 definitely 2 3/4" H x 15 1/8" W x 12 1/4" D. Measured it twice today.
