My guess..the motherboard they used came with them...and it was cheaper to buy off the shelf.

I know. It's one of those toys that I want, but I can't even begin to justify buying it. I can't see myself ever really using it.

Also nice if you have an XBox or Playstation or anything else that requires an ethernet connection. You only have to run one line to the HR21 and then you can use the second connection to continue to another piece of equipment - even another computer.

I'm home most of the time. I have 3 slingboxes and use them all without ever walking out my front door.

Trust me, once you get one you will use it.

I have a game adapter connected to the HR21, then a CAT5 cable running from the HR21 to the HR20, so both are on the network. This has been what has allowed me to isolate the media share problem in the HR20, since when music and photos option disappears from the HR20 (requiring a reset), it is still available on the HR21 at the same connection.

Would there be bandwidth loss with that 2 port switch, if two devices would be connected to the same cable?

Doesn't seem to be any negative effect. While testing, I connected the second port to a switch that was connected to an HR20 and Slingbox. Both functioned fine. The HR21's network chipset is designed to act as a full duplex switch.

Wait...does the 2nd port act as an "internet out" plug?

The HR21 acts like a 2 port switch. When you plug in the first network cable, the second port is active for another device.

Some have tested the 2nd port by connecting a laptop directly and were able to access the internet. As we've said, it's a full pass through and acts like any other port on your router.
