Do both these units have the 500gb hard drive? A post on another forum suggested that they do.

Yes they both do. Main difference seems to be that the HR23 does not require BBCs as it has wide band tuners built in.

If you're trying to decide on which one you want and time is not a huge factor, I think I would wait for the 23 to become available. My gut tells me that the wide band tuners in it are going to eliminate alot of the common issues that pop up here.

    Just my opinion, though.

Thanks for all replies. I am in no rush, will probably wait, but I would like the extra space for recordings. Don't know if I want to go the eSATA route, you know ANOTHER piece of equipment!

Of course, if you already have a SWMLine ODU, then you don't need the BBC either. Thus, in this setting (SWMLine) the HR22 and HR23 are equivalent (except, possibly, for some chipset updates).

It is not difficult to swap BBCs if a customer does receive defective ones (and it does happen pretty frequently, judging by this forum.)

I have used 7 BBCs in the past couple of years and never had any problems with them.

With the wideband tuners there is no bbc, internal or external. I suspect the wideband tuners will help eliminate alot of the 771 errors and blank recordings that people are seeing.
