Still might be a bad LNB. I just had one replaced and had no idea it was bad. Tech delivered a new HR to the house and checked the dish as he always does and replaced the LNB.

By now, I'm sure you know the 23-700 is the worst 700 that D* has produced (or caused to be produced). A new HR might be your best bet.

I have the same problem as mentioned here. The HR21-700 loses sat 99 at about the same time everyday but after about 45mins it returns. My HD receiver in the bedroom does not have this issue so I don't think it's a LOS problem and I'm inclined to think that the H21-700 has an internal malfunction.

I had a lot of problems with the 21-700s (perhaps the best of the 21 series) in that regard when they were introduced. All caused by a really bad installation about two years before. Once that got straightened out, the 21-700s worked well. Slow, but well.

Try getting an alignment, just because you don't have problems on every receiver doesn't mean your dish is properly aligned or the LNBs are working properly.

Still not sold on being out of alignment when signal levels are 90-100 on all sats and both tuners, this includes the 99.

I just noticed that the HR23 and HR20 have different software The HR23 has 0X4a7 and the HR 20 has 0X4aa. The date they were downloaded July 6 for the HR 23 is proably when my problem started ( I didn't notice until I started watching D* during the day ).

Any chance this could be the cause of my problems ?

I haven't lost any channels today since I swapped the HR20 for the HR23.

I guess I'm going to have to call D* Monday .

    Is the HR24 problem free ? How soon for a HR25 ?

I called D* and talked a service tech.He said the channels I'm missing are not on the sat @99 ( c ) and it's just a coincidence that I get all zeros when the channels are gone and 95-98 when they are reappear. He says 103 has all the national Hd channels.

After checking and confirming that signal strength on 103 was all 93-98 he said it must a multi switch. I said the is no multi switch between the dish and the HR23 .He said it is must be inside the dish. So I'm getting a free service call Thursday .

I will get him to check the dish alignment, grounding block ,cabling and the LNB. I want to make sure that problem is the HR 23 .

I just got a free HDVR ( HR23-100) upgrade on one of my receivers and the tech swapped out the LNB to a 5LNB SWM and it seems to be working fine so far. He checked the alignment and no adjustment was needed, also checked the connections and replaced a couple of them. All in all he did a very thorough job and so far so good.

When they do so many things, you never know what caused the original problem. Happens all the time. Never bothers me, as long as the problem is fixed. That's a 23-700, by the way. Thankfully, D* spared us from 23-100s...

I just double checked the receiver and I was mistaken, it is a HR24-100. (know your equipment right? )...lol... and yes Rich, as long as the problem is fixed, who cares.

Well, a lot of folks on the forum care, even tho I don't, and I can understand that. It makes forming a conclusion almost impossible and without those conclusions things don't get fixed. Can't blame the installer/tech for doing it that way, it's how I'd do it and they get paid to fix issues promptly and go on to the next service call.

Got my service call today. Checked signal strength and got zero for the sat @99.

Went out to dish and checked again before and after the grounding block. Then checked the LNB. He replaced the old 5lnb with a 3 lnb.

He told me when you have a signal then lose it ,then get it back. The cause is usually a connection that is contracting and then expanding allowing a connection and the signal to return.

So he replaced the ground block and put new connectors on the coax.

Then he reset the sat set up in all the receivers.

Gave me his card with his cell number and said he will keep the work order open for a few days in case the problem returns.
