I got a new replacement Hr24 for a HR20 today. The tech who swapped out boxes told me My harmony 880 remote wont work anymore?? said it will fry the HR24?? I asked about others (remotes) and he said I cant use any other remote then the x? Kinda didn't make sense to me but.
So can I continue to use it or am I really doing damage?

    That's a load of hooey.

I used a Harmony 880 with every DIRECTV DVR I've had without any changes to the programming. I now have a Harmony 700 and programmed it to work with my HR23 and now it works fine with my HR24.

Of course you can't go through the self-programming options with anything but an RC65X or RC65RX, but with Logitech's PC-based setup, I hardly think you're worried about that.

Use that 880 with confidence, sir.

I have no idea what he was thinking. The "x" will self program, which the others don't, but that's the only difference.
I've got to throw the BS flag on what he said.

Yup Thats what I thought, as when he was outside using his pda/programer I hit menu on my 880 and up it came.
I knew to ask here, you guys are the best!

My Hr24-500 works with my 890 and 880 just fine. What a strange thing to say...

I also agree that is NOT correct information.

There is a new remote with the Hx24 series that helps self program the TV settings.

You're not doing any damage, I use my HR24-500 with my Harmony 880 and I have been since I got DirecTV.

Looking at the HR24 the left side should you hear any noise?? It sounds to me like a loose solider joint arcing.
