Folks...I've just disconnected and was told that I will not be getting a recovery kit as DirecTV no longer wants the HR24 back. Can anyone here confirm this?

    thanks! Mike Nassour

Is there a reason for this? Any HR-24 is fairly new.
And is there a list somewhere of the non recoverable boxes?

Both of mine are only 2 years old.

I got new software this morning at 3 am. One of them has loaded thru Friday on the guide, the other one has only loaded 1 day. I just did the clearmybox on it and will see if that helps it.
It appears that the new software cleared the guide and I have not noticed that in the past.

I just had an HR24-100 replaced and there wasn't any recovery kit included. I emailed them and they daid it takes 5 to 7 days after you deactivate to get a recovery kit. It has been a week today and still no recovery kit.

I disconnected back on July 15 and ordered a recovery kit for my one leased box. The kit was ordered, then (I was told) today was cancelled by DirecTV.

We'll know more once we know exactly what a Genie Lite is.

I deactivated an HR24 in January 2014 (it was only 1.5 years old). They said they didn't want it back, just keep it and i can reactivate it in the future if I want.

Yours may have been refurbished 2 years ago but I am certain it is older than 2 years.

I replied to the first email and this time I got a response back that the HR24-100 is considered non recoverable and we will not ask you to return it. You may bring it to a local recycling center. We have created a site especially for that purpose. It is easy to use and it is free. You send them to us and will responsibly recycle them. To get started, just go to our recycling site at http://directv.round2web.com/, and follow these steps:

    1. Answer questions about your equipment.
    2. Print a shipping label.
    3. Ship your device to our certified R2 recycler.

Installers are required to remove all receivers (when swapping) regardless of age and model number

My HR24-500 upgrade to 0x8a6 about a hour ago. Perhaps this is not the right forum, but how do you find out the specific changes that were made for that software release? Thank you!

I just called ACT and confirmed that the 24-500s and 24-200s are recoverable and the 24-100s aren't.

Interesting. Do we have any evidence, even anecdotal, that the 100's don't hold up as well?

If not, it looks like the death knell for the standalone DVR, or at least the beginning of the end. They will probably use the remaining stock to service old non-swm holdouts like me, replacing failed units. I just got my first HR24 in May.

A server/client protocol is much cheaper for the DBS companies, convenient for families or multi-room setups, and allows easier competition with cable. It makes sense. Just not for everybody.
