After a year of dealing with comcast after years of having directv, I am thinking of returning, but now that I see all of this stuff about the new receivers, I am leery of getting old ones only to have new ones arrive shortly after.

First, are they out for use yet? If not, how long will I have to wait for them? I don't know how the directv leases work, so if I get the older one, is it an easy swap or are you on the hook for more cash?

There are a few test markets that are receiving them as part of MRV installs right now. The HR24 has not yet rolled out for every market .. probably another 6-8 weeks before that happens.

They are not available yet. Even when they do become available, if you order from Directv, they don't guarantee a specific model, and you get what you get. Only way to guarantee you get an HR24 is to order it specifically through an online retailer, or go and physically pick it up from a regular store.

You're not guaranteed the HR24 there either - you could get HR2/0/1/2/3 with DECA.

They can still give you anything they have.
    From DirecTV page:
What do I need for Multi-Room DVR service?
All you need is one HD DVR (models HR20 or newer) in one room and HD receivers (models H21 or newer) in your other rooms.

Maybe it just doesn't show up in my area (east coast) but the picture in the MRV advertisemant page isn't an HR24.

Like Luck255 asked do you get your local stations from Portland? If so you could probably get HR24s and H24s if you sign up as a new install and ask for MRV (make sure to ask for MRV as part of the install, don't try to add it on later).

not in the correct market for a -24, and if you read up you'll probably see you're better off with a 22 instead of a 23.
