HR24 & H23 can not play programs recorded on a Genie?

I was just talking to a rep about getting a Genie but she said I would have to replace my other receivers because my existing ones would not play recorded programs on the Genie.

Is this true? I have been reading about the HR4x/Genie here off and on over the past year and never got the impression my existing receivers wouldn't work with the Genie.

    Thanks for any help,

    Patrick

If you currently have two HR24 and an HR23, that means you have six tuners.
The standard SWM that comes with a 3-LNB antenna can only support eight tuners, and the Genie is going to add another five tuners.
You will have to upgrade to a SWM-16 to be able to use all the tuners at the same time.

Whole-Home DVR means that all DVRs can see each other. The rep is wrong.

Joe is right. They do play together if you switch out to a SWM-16. You will end up with 9 tuners . The Genie has 5, the HR24 2, and the HR23 2.. Thats a whole lota tv.

The rep is wrong, it's as easy as that. The way I read the OP is that the HR34/44 will give him a total of eight tuners and he shouldn't have to upgrade to a SWM-16!

Yep clearly it says HR24 and H23, That's 3 tuners
    Genie is 5
Swm 8 or Swm LNB will work fine.
And yes every recording will be accessible from every receiver connected to the SWM system. (HR- H21 or Higher)
One thing though, H23 may need Deca adapter in order to assess and make recordings.

And you can't set a recording from one DVR to another.
Which has never been an issue for me.

Also H23 can't do Video on Demand, you would have to record VOD off of one of your DVRS in order to watch it on H23.
H23 can't pause and rewind live tv, But hitting record fixes that issue.

I prefer the H series rather then the Client boxes.
No interruptions by recording conflicts, and much faster performance.

I will never have a Client C31/41 until Directv forces me too , and even then , I would switch providers if Directv starts telling me what equipment I must have. LOL!.

DirecTV is really pushing its customers to a Genie and Genie minis, however as others have mentioned, HD and HDDVRs can share the playlist among each other

    5 tuners plus 4 tuners = 9 tuners.

    Reread the topic... HR24 & H23... That's 3. Add a Genie (5) and it's 8.

I have an HR44, HR22 and an HR21, a SWM-16, 9 tuners, and all 3 receivers see each other, I can watch any program on any receiver.

Personally I prefer the clients over the H boxes if for no other reason than Pandora. Assuming your system is/will be internet connected, the H box won't have access to any of the internet connected features.

I forgot to mention that I have TWO HR24s and an H23, so that's 5 tuners already. Adding 5 with the Genie I assume means a SWM16, which is probably what the rep didn't want to give me. (I'd actually expect a SWM16 to be cheaper than 3 Genie minis)

    As for this...

Are you saying that introducing a Genie into a system that already has H* recievers will render the HR24 & H23 unable to use internet services like Media Share, Pandora, etc?

Regardless of what was said, the last sentence is wrong. They all connect up fine, including internet.

I like having a client because I can manage all the recordings from anywhere. It was always annoying to me when I'd be watching in one room and go to set a recording and have a conflict, so then I'd have to go to the other room to set up the recording on on the other box. It was also more cumbersome to manage disk space on two boxes instead of one. JMO.

Never had this issue. I would see a lot more conflicts if I dropped my HR24 and HR23 for 2 C41's that's for sure.

I have a Genie and 2 HR24's. I have 4 recordings happening on Wednesday night at 8pm and also watch live tv, so Mini's would not work for me.

What I was referring to was non DVR boxes like your h23. If I was you then I'd replace the H23 with the genie and keep the HR24s. They will all have the internet connected features, and they will all share with each other. If you wanted a 4th box, them get a client because IMO they're better than your H23.

to a degree. if this box is to be used in a guest bedroom, I would keep the H23 without a DECA so that way is not in the network

Oops, I never think about people having receivers instead of DVRs. Thanks for the correction.

I find it very interesting how everyone uses their equipment so differently. I see people post some things where I think "why the heck would anyone do that?" and I know some people think the same thing about some of the things I post. Whatever works for people.
