I confirmed there is indeed a user changable input selection (composite os svideo) in the settings menu.

S-video or SVideo is also known as Y/C. But laymen also use the term svhs since the super vhs machines incoporated the above output as the method of achieving a better end result of transmission.

Wasn't saying it wasn't possible. Just that I hadn't thought of that as a possibility.

This is exactly what my DVDR looks like. There is an s-video in. I went through the manual to no avail and called Toshiba also to no avail. I have sent an e-mail to the tech dept. and waiting for an answer.
Is there a DVD recorder that has Component Video inputs, or better yet, HDMI?

Maybe Yoda can tell you exactly how to get to the user setting to record via Svideo.

Here's a manual for the DR430 model (all of the recorders are the same as far as switching the input connection method:

    Go to:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...DR570KU&selCategory=2797338&selFamily=2797342

Click o the tab that says user manual, then let it load.
On page 54 it tells you step by step how to switch to s-video connection inlue of the default composite connection. You can do this for the rear or front set of line inputs.

Folow steps 1-7 on the page I indicated and you should be good to go....

I've got the Toshiba DVD Recorder and had the same problem with copy protected content when HBO etc. started enforcing it.

The solution for me was to NOT flip the AV Surround Sound receiver to watch the program through the recorder while I watched/recorded it. I just leave the AV Receiver set to feed my DirecTV signal to the TV, the programming still comes out the s-video from the DVR to the DVD Recorder and my DVD is made just fine. I just hit the record button when the shwow starts and the stop button when it's over. Then you can flip switches, turn knobs, whatever to see what your DVD recorder is doing so that you can finalize your dvd.

Did you also need the TV to be on?
