Methinks we've hit upon the crux of the impasse. It sounded to me as if you eschewed all phones (especially with the phone booth on the corner image).

Cellphones and landphones represent a luxury. You can do without one or the other. But one can not do without both these days.

    Fair 'nuff? :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

As much as I love technology you couldn't give me a cell phone. They're America's new addiction. A few months ago I was shopping at Sam's Club. I needed to relieve my bladder so I went to the men's room. As I was standing in front of the urinal I could hear a man in one of the stalls behind me talking on his cell phone and fumbling with the toilet paper roll. There was a loud "ker plop" followed by the man saying "Oh Sh*t". I laughed so hard I nearly sprayed my shoes! Pretty sorry state of affairs when someone can't take a break from their cell phone addiction to perform a body function.

^^ Don't worry, before long they'll be small enough to implant and you'll be able to use them via brainwaves without speaking out loud at all.

Then let's see what happens when OP calls himself.

Yea, I've heard about that. If the call came to my HOME phone I'd go with that but it came to my CELL phone as if it was from my home phone and only about 6 people have my cell number. If the call had shown up in my outgoing home call logs that would be one thing but it didn't.

    Definitely a "Fringe" moment!

The survey says: 19% of all people drop their phones down the toilet:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-20081595-71/study-19-percent-of-people-drop-phones-down-toilet/

"Allegedly, 19 percent of people drop their smartphones down the toilet. Please consider that for a moment. In the average family of five, it is likely that one of them has taken his or her smartphone into the bathroom and then, for reasons that would surely cause ordinary minds to boggle without pause, allowed it to slip into the watery beyond."

If you feel that way about a cell phone, I'd hate to hear how you feel about automobiles... YIKES!! :eek2:

I know people like that (well, they wouldn't be talking in the bathroom, but...). However, most people I know use it normally...

You cannot blame a technology because certain individuals use it irresponsibly.

As long as you don't answer yourself you're fine.

Makes you wonder why GEICO didn't use something like that in their "Do people do dumb things with Smart Phones" commercial.

I stated in post #23 I love technology (including automoboles). I simply have no fondness or use for cell phones.

I wouldn't quote the above to her... ;)

I read that... but you also stated that they're America's new addiction, and that things are pretty bad when it gets to the point that someone's using one in the restroom.

I'm certainly not addicted to my phone, nor are many people I know. The cell phone is simply a device that offers convenience and allows us a safety net in case of emergencies.

I do realize (contrary to what I said earlier) that I sometimes bring my phone in the bathroom when I take a bath if I'm expecting a call, but I'm certainly not going to use it like the individual you mentioned.

They are a addiction. You cannot go anywhere in today's society without being exposed to someone's cell phone usage.

Do you have call forwarding? I have seen some mighty strange things happen with it.

I'm sure I do but I have never used it. Also a forwarded call would would show the number of the caller which would still mean it originated in my house which it didn't since I was the only one home and hadn't touched the phone all day.

If the call was dialed from within my home it would show in my call logs.

What's caller ID? I've looked all over my phone and can't find anything printed on it like that?
