I would like to get another HD-DVR. I have been with D* for two years now. I am out of my contract and I just want to add a HD-DVR. What can I do to get a free HD-DVR?

Call a CSR and find out; they will review your account history and give you the best offer.
You can always remind them in a friendly way that you are out of contract and have offers from competitors.

No matter what kind of deal you get it will come with a new 2 year committment. Unless you are willing to pay the purchase price. I believe it's $499 for the HD DVRs...

and if they throw you a new HD dvr, it's the luck of the draw on model number. I'm a new customer as of April, got a HR 23-700 but added another HD DVR and they sent out a HR 21-100. I get stuck with a smaller HD.

They have no guarantee as to model numbers.

    199.00 box
    19.95 shipping
99.00 install for bedroom, only one line in bedroom

Plus taxes, that was the cost.

Why can't they install the dish that can put out one line and get two signals?

I think you got a bad quote, I would call again. They have always had in the past, free installation with a new receiver. I know you shouldn't have to, but I would call and talk to another CSR, you very likely will get a better deal. Did you check on line and see what you are eligible for?

No SWM for upgrades, no SWM for current customers.
Did you relay the 'offers' you get from cable/dish every week?

I added an HR-21 about 2 months ago and it was $149.00 plus tax for HD-DVR and installation. They had to run one wire and add a multiswitch.

Different people are eligable for different deals based on their account history, with your payment history being the primary factor.

Gotta be persuasive and willing to go the full length of the call all the way to the cancellation department. should get a free install.

Occasionally they'll actually cancel you, leaving people saying "But, But I didn't really mean it", so if you want to play that card beware. And I have no sympathy for those it happens to.

I think it's pretty obvious lately that the deals are not going on right now with companies. Very few posts have popped up saying "I called and got XXX" lately. There are the occasional ones but it's not like it was before. Hard economic times mean that companies shore up credits and start preparing for less revenue. Less revenue means less deals to keep ARPU up. Playing the disconnect card will get you what you asked for but not always what you want.

For what it's worth I called D* on Friday and said "cancel" to the automated operator and was connected to retention I think. All I said to the live CSR was I wanted to upgrade my h20 receiver with a hd dvr. I asked what was the best deal they could offer me. I got my hd dvr for $99 plus $20 for shipping. Also included in the deal was $10 off my bill for 12 months. I had to commit for 2 years. I did not need installation as I already have 2 wires going to the receiver that I am replacing so I am unsure if I would have been charged for that. I never mentioned to the CSR I wanted to cancel my service and I am happy with the outcome. YMMV.
