So I've finally been able to come back to dtv well after. 5 years. Some may remember me as I was quite involved with the forum at the time. Or maybe not? Lol.

Anyway, we got set up 3 days ago with the new genie equipment and I have been adding shows to auto record. I have the defaults set to only record first runs of the shows. The probelm I'm having is its recording all episodes of the shows.

On a side not if I remember correctly in the guide data it would show you of an item was a first run/new episode but mine is not.

Any information in regards to this issue is appreciated!

Btw so glad to be back. I've missed the quality that is dtv.

Is it putting it into the todo list, or actually recording them? It you hit INFO on the highlighted episode, it should show on the top line of the description, the original air date. If its different than todays date, it is a rerun.

Your avatar certainly looks familiar. I have seen issues with a new DVR of reruns getting recorded, but they tend to fix themselves quickly. I still do see them in the todo list, but they don't actually record.

Its most def. Recording them. I figured it might be a new system hiccup. Ill give it another week to see what happens.

So when I'm in my guide looking at upcoming programming I have to hit the info button to see if its first run or rerun? This used to show up in the guide info by default didn't it?

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I appreciate it.

Is there any documentation I can read on this genie equipment to get a good idea just what all it can DO?

    On the road...
I occasionally see that as well. My guess is that not all of the guide info is complete. Like sometimes info like new/rerun or original air date gets dropped from the data stream due to space constraints (like the schedule provider pushed a very large update). When bandwidth allows, DirecTV resends more complete info and then the show gets dropped from the to do list. Once you have a complete 2 week guide, I think the issues will (mostly) stop.

    Hey stranger.

What I think you're seeing is the program you used to setup the recording.
With a new setup, when you pick a show to record, even with first run only, the one you used to setup the SL, will record, but the following ones will be how your defaults are set.

VOS this makes sense. Thanks for the info!

Does the dbs site have any write ups or white papers on this new genie dvr so I can read up on its features and etc.

Also is the cutting edge program still going on?

Sorry for the slow response. Internet still isn't hooked up at the new place so access is limited.

I have been a cord cutter for the time away. But the wife like having TV and we can afford it. We had cable because of internet requirements but aren't held to that any more so came back cause the best service by far.

I don't owe anyone money. =D and thanks merg!
