Next month is the first anniversary of the HR-20's release. It has come along way. Directv, please add DLB to the next CE. It is time. We have waited patiently long enough. Thank you.

Dual Live Buffer - allows you to toggle through two live shows and maintain rewind capabilities on both.
Same thing as recording two programs at once.

    Dual Line Buffers.

The HR10-250 DirrecTV receiver for example have a buffer on each tuner.

The HR20 only has one 90 minute buffer on a single tuner.

    I have a theory. :sure:

It could be that DLB will not work unless the HR20 is connected thru a SWM.

Could be a stupid theory, but the holdup could be getting the SWM mainstream and the HR20 has updated software.

    Let the flaming begin

Start threads, vote on the wishlist, make noise. I am confident that D* pays attention to what happens on this forum. The right people know we want it, and they still seem to be on the fence. Take every reasonable opportunity to make your wishes known. Keep it up!

    DLB! DLB! DLB!

It's really not the same as recording two programs at once, for one very big reason: Pressing record on two tuners forces the HR20 to look at the free space before the recording begins, which could potentially lead to programs being deleted to make room for the new programs to be recorded.

Depending on the length of the programs you want to watch "live", pressing record to simulate DLB also forces the software look for conflicts during the span the program runs.

DLB does NOT affect your playlist in any fashion - it simply buffers two tuners and permits toggling between the two tuners with independent pause points maintained.

Recording two programs at the same time also requires you to view one of those two programs (or an OTA channel or pre-recorded program). With both tuners in use, you're not free to view other channels.

And what makes up the buffer?
Silly me, I thought it was disk space.

And what can you do differently with DLB?
You still have the same number of available tuners.
If you're using DLB and choose a third channel, what happens to the previous previous channel's buffer?

Your DVR is always recording the last 90 minutes of whatever channel you have on. It does not show up in your play list but you are able to RW or pause the show. DLB would mean whatever channel both tuners are on it would record the last 90 minutes or whatever amount of time Directv set DLB to if they add it. Then you would be able to flip between tuners and not lose what is buffered (or recording) on the other. But if you change the channel you will lose the buffer and it will start recording again.

Hopefully someone else will be able to word it a little better for you.
