Ok so I'm a life long Laker fan since the late 80's and as most of us know the Lakers signed a new multi Billion dollar deal with Time Warner Cable that will last 20 to possibly 25 years. The new regional network channels will be in HD and 1 in Spanish.
My understanding is that even though it's an exclusive deal with TWC that due to FCC rules they have to offer the new regional network channels to their competitors like Directv. From what I read in press release articles that the new channels will be available to people in LA,OC,Socal,SD, and even Las Vegas.
The network I think will be called Time Warner Cable Sports Net and is suppose to launch on 10/01/12 according to their website.
The channel is suppose to also carry programming for the WNBA LA Sparks and MLS LA Galaxy.
My main concern here is do you guys see the possibility of bad contract negotiations between Directv & TWC over how much they should be getting charged to carry this new regional sports channels?
as a diehard Laker fan who lives in DC i am thrilled, got sick and tired of watching the the opponents biased broadcast coverage of the games on League Pass.
Can anyone tell me if the channel is native 720p or 1080i?
They will be on either FSN PT or TWC Sportnet. They will not start their own channel. They will get more money from a contract with another than they would with their own.
Really glad this got settled and we got the channel on D* now.
I called D* and got my account un suspended without losing any of my current discount & promos.I asked for a one time credit of $40 to cover the installation fee for U-Verse and the CSR couldn't do it.But they gave me $5 off for 6 months off.
Got home from a long day from my Cisco CCNA training class.Hooked back up my HR 34 to my Panasonic 55" plasma and was great to tune to channel 691 and see TWC SportsNet live in it's beautiful 1080i broadcast.Caught the last 15 minutes of episode 6 Backstage Lakers.
Called U-Verse up and canceled U-Verse TV without any hassle and managed to lower my U-Verse Turbo Max 24MB DSL plan where they gave me $15 off for a year on my current $58 a month rate. But I had to sign a 1 year agreement for the U-Verse DSL which I didn't mind at all since their internet has been great & pretty consistent where I live.
Disconnected and returned the one U-Verse HD DVR & 2 HD receivers to a local UPS store which was less than a mile from my house.
Going to relax now and enjoy the shows on this channel.
Then tomorrow I'm heading up to LA with a buddy to watch the Laker game live, witness Kareem's statue unveiling outside Staples Center before the game.
