The current press releases state "33 million customers in the U.S. and Latin America." (US "19.9 million customers".) Reporters can get dinged for getting too much information from a company's PR team ... but subscriber counts are important (although the reporter may have got the numbers, especially the number of potential in region subscribers to the Lakers channel, from a contact at TWC).

Subscriber counts are a bit of smoke and mirrors ... per DirecTV: "Subscriber Count. The total number of subscribers represents the total number of subscribers actively subscribing to our service, including subscribers who have suspended their account for a particular season of the year because they are temporarily away from their primary residence and subscribers who are in the process of relocating and commercial equivalent viewing units."

(I don't see a current definition of "commercial equivalent viewing units" but I believe it is calculated by dividing commercial revenue by the cost of a specific residential package or the ARPU.)

I have slowly come to realize that DirecTV is being the most stubborn in all of this. Look at Pac-12, signed by most cable carriers and Dish, and now TWC sportsnet which has been signed by most cable carriers in the region, as well as telco providers AT&T and Verizon.

As it stands right now, I would not be surprised one bit if Dish gets a TWC deal before DirecTV does.

Isn't that their M.O. now? Weren't they bragging about how it worked with Viacom? I doubt they'll budge.

Maybe it will be part of bringing Phil Jackson back.

    Here is a tip.

Subscribe to League Pass Broadband and download Witopia VPN software. Changes your IP address so Laker games are no longer blacked out. Optional hookup, Mini port Hdmi to your HDTV. Full HD Quality and no lag. It's like watching the original network and league pass broadband is only $26.00 a month and you can cancel anytime. I suggest you have at least 20mb download to enjoy this feature.

    You can thank me later.

I get free online streams every day including the Lakers with either the home team announcers or away announcers. I watch the Lakers on my 52" HDTV with no blackouts, no restrictions, etc. and perfectly legal.
You can also thank me later.

But the quality is horrible and you know it. That's why I am streaming league pass. I have tried what you are talking about, it sucks.

Yes, the feed is crappy, but i watch the same game as everyone else does. I watch the same game TWC has, but i won't let TWC rip me off just for the fact that i am watching THE SAME DAMN GAME!
You're streaming League Pass? Fine.............but i'm watching THE SAME DAMN GAME AS YOU. If the Laker Girls prance around topless....then i'll reconsider.

Blurry and grainy? I watch the games on my 52" HDTV and for 2/12 hours the picture is more than respectable. I can watch at least one third of the games on TNT, ESPN, etc. The playoffs will be national. I refuse to pay $4 a month for a regional network that has zero interest to me other than a part time Lakers channel. I don't watch pregame shows, i don't watch post game shows, or anything other than the actual game. TWC sux......and hopefully DirecTV doesn't cave in.

There are plenty of ways of receiving content via "other methods" (some of dubious legality) ... if one wants to discuss those other ways sites that welcome that discussion can be found via Google, Bing or other search engines.

Our site is for the discussion of DBS ... this forum is for the discussion of DirecTV. If you wish to discuss "other methods", especially those of dubious legality, please find another site. (The discussion of whether or not a specific alternative is legal is also off topic.)

At least for those of us with access to NBA LP BB based on our subscription to the TV NBA LP via DirecTV, your blackouts are tied to your DirecTV zip code so this unfortunately doesn't work.

If/when they make a deal.... you WILL pay that $4, although it most likely amortized as a small fraction over all 20 million customers. Of course, you can switch providers at that point, but i think besides Dish and DirecTV.... everyone is on board.

I actually want the channel for the Los Angeles Galaxy. I don't watch Lakers, yet I am expected to share the same $4 for a team that is no more than $0.50 of the channel's worth.

    Somewhere...
It appears the Kings at Lakers game tonight won't be on Directv tonight. They don't even have the Kings feed in the guide anywhere either.

    Just somewhat confusing right now;

Why would DIRECTV conspicuously remove TWC SN's listing from their "Our Promise To You" web page without any explanation and with no hint of any carriage agreement anywhere in sight?

Does this mean negotiations have formally broken off for now or the season or what?

Oh well ... whatever the case another game tonight apparently lost. :(

Gotta be a sign that talks are close. At least close enough to stop any PR wars.

Doubt it means talks have stopped. They'd not take it down if there was no chance.
