I'm searching for a good USB-bus powered fan to help cool my rather
toasty laptop. A search on New Egg shows over 50 models, too many
to compare, and make an informed buying decision.

If you're using a cooling fan, I would appreciate having your comments.

    Thanks.

I have a Targus model PA248 USB powered laptop cooler that seems to do the job pretty well. I got it at one of the big box stores (can't recall which one).

OfficeMax has the $30 Targus Chill Mat on sale for $20 thru 3/31/07.
I use it for my HR20, but it is designed for laptops.

I got a couple of Vantek coolers from NewEgg. One for one of our laptops and the second for my 942. Nothing special, but both applications work fine.

I've used this one, too. It does the job.

"The ZM-NC1000 looks like an industrial art student's magnum opus" - Gear Digest

Well, here's my final choice - and the winner is <drum roll, please> the ZALMAN Ultra
    Quiet Notebook Cooler
. I ordered it from New Egg and it came yesterday. Yes, I paid
considerably more than the average price for LT coolers, but the tech reviews* and the
relevant user ratings were good, and the unit's quality appeared to excellent.

    I was not disappointed.

ZALMAN Ultra Quiet Notebook Cooler Model ZM-NC1000 - available in silver and black

The design, functionality and quality of this product are exceptional. making the higher
price of the unit well-justified. As a bonus, my 15" laptop fits on the device perfectly, as
if it were custom-made. I am very pleased with this unit.

    - sleek, functional design
    - heavy 3mm aluminum cooling surface
    - slanted for ergonomic comfort
    - two ultra-quiet fans
    - rotary, variable-speed fan control
    - on/off switch (PUSH/PUSH)
    - power-on LED
    - USB powered w/2 ports
    - short 'jumper' USB cable included

This device performs well and the fan is virtually inaudible at all speeds. I can "feel" the
lower temperature of my keyboard with the fan on, but am in the process of measuring
temperatures in the off-low-high settings to objectively evaluate its cooling efficiency. I
will report my measurements in a subsequent post.

Lastly, I appreciate all your comments and suggestons - they were helpful to me in my
overly-anal quest for the ideal LT cooling solution. Thank you. :)
