I got used to this little quirk when I was still with cable. The Motorola MOXIE HD-DVR had this function. Once you get used to it, it really isn't that bad. I agree that it would be nice to have more room on the screen for guide data, but as far as catching ends of programs and games, it really isn't that difficult to use the ch up, ch down, or last ch button (assuming you are only recording one thing at a time). For anyone who has never had to deal with the cable version of the HD-DVR known as Moxie, the HR-20, warts and all, is a dream come true in comparison. I love mine and can't wait for OTA to be active.

I like the idea of being about to turn it off.
When I go to Guide or Playlist I want to see a list.
The more information they can show me from the list
    in one screen the better.
User configurable seems like a great way to go for this and probably other items.

Seems many of these threads trun to shouting matches after about 1 page:(

I appreciate (almost) everybody's input on this issue. I feel that by discussing the issue in this forum, it may be addressed more quickly than if I remain silent. The squeaky wheel does tend to get the grease.

be(il)logical seems to be the only one who can't discuss the issue rationally. The thought of returning the box because of this issue is infantile. I am in the Los Angeles area so I didn't get it for HD locals, I got it because of the HDRSN's. I was one of the first to get the HR20, DirecTV gave me the box for free and I feel like I am getting my moneys worth.

I've been a premiere DTV customer for 10 years, I own three Tivo's including an HR10-250 along with the HR20-700 and I understand that they all have issues. We are trying to improve the products by conveying our user experiences.

From being a past Dish Network customer, seems like this feature could be selectable so you can choose whether to have the video preview or not.
