I am new to DTV and thought for sure I read somewhere that you can get the Local on the 8's on the Weather Channel. I have channel 362 in HD. Am I missing something.
I did locate the weather on the access channel but that is not quite the same.

It's only on the SD channel

I hate to seem totally stupid here - but where is the SD channel? All I see in the guide is 362

You have to go to the setup menu Display sub menu and remove the "hide SD duplicates" I've found it's not worth the effort to get the Local on the 8's.

    I've made the same "discovery":)
Not worth much when you do get them.

So what you can do is unhide SD duplicates.
Then if you have the latest software that is rolling out right now you'll have the Quick Tune feature.
So hit the up arrow, add the SD version of TWC to your Quick Tune grid.
Then go hid the SD duplicates again.

Now any time you want local on the 8s use Quick Tune to go to the SD TWC. :D

    Good idea!
Never thought of that and probably would have thought it wouldn't work anyway:grin:

Also, if you select TWC from the "News Mix" channel, it will show the SD feed instead of the HD feed. This is probably the easiest method I've found outside the quick tune feature.

Anyone know when the locals on the 8 will be available on the HD channel?

    Thanks

Maybe after the weather star HD come out and direct tv may also need a weather star HD in National mode.

Same here, especially since one of our OTA locals has a weather subchannel.

02af is being rolled out now. It may take a few days for all receivers to get it.

Another option is going to the News Mix channel 102, and selecting The Weather Channel from there... you'll be brought to the SD version.

Tried this tonight. None of the news mix channels appeared when selected. Switched to Sports Mix 104 and channels worked as expected. Of course I got a got a channel not purchased message when selecting CBS College Sports channel.

must be a problem with the channel... I can highlight the channel, but when I hit 'select' nothing happens, either.

News mix channel is working now, but when I select Weather Channel I get the HD version, not SD. Yes, I have SD duplicates hidden.

This is not a real problem, as I can always look out the window to see what the local weather is like. It's raining today :D

Strange. I also ave SD dupes hidden, but it still tunes to the SD channel for me.

Yes. I agree with your weather analysis, however. Raining pretty good here, too. Horton Plaza was pretty desolate considering the time of year! ;)
