Will this be picked up by Direct or Dish?
As of right now DTV isn't planning on showing it. Go to http://espn.go.com/longhornnetwork/ and request it. If there is enough interest then DTV will pick it up.
DirecTV would be insane not to pick that network up.
It doesn't start broadcasting until August 26, thus I doubt there would be much news until the start of August.
Niche Network. Maybe delivered via regional spot beam would be best. Directv needs the room for the new Lakers and Padres sport networks.
I can't see where there would be any interest in it.
In all honesty, I like the spot beam idea better. Unless the spot beams are exclusively reserved for LiL.
Huh? No RSNs are spot beamed. Why would you think that the Longhorn network would have less interest than the Lakers/Padres? I am expecting the Lakers/Padres to be RSN (sports pack, etc.) but Longhorn, when it comes on board, to be like the Big Ten Network...nationally available in most packages.
Heck, I even put in a zip code for Austin and the site says currently TWC and AT&T have no plans to launch it. Of course this may change closer to when the channel goes live, but if the providers in Austin haven't announced anything, I don't see DirecTV or Dish doing anything yet.
Of the two, I'd say DirecTV would do it over Dish but that's just based on the way Dish has handled sports in the past. I don't see DirecTV putting it anything but the Sports Pack though.
I wouldn't go that far. I think in the SW (TX, LA, NM, etc.) that Longhorn Network will be in most programming packages and nationally in the sports pack, much the same way The MTN. is in basic programming packages within their footprint and sports pack nationally.
With as many UT fans as there are out there and as big as Texas is, DirecTV would be idiots not to offer this channel, so they will.
To compare the draw of the Longhorns and the Big 12 to the Mountain West is a bit out of range. More like the Big Ten. I do not see this as an RSN at all. Not with the sway Texas holds and the fact that it will bring games of all sports of the entire conference (which is a bit weaker than it was just a year ago, but still a power conference).
but will be in basic for all?
Sports pack for all?
Like a RSN basic for the Longhorn area and sports pack out side of it?
I hope it's not in basic. I don't want my rates going up to pay for Texas' ego trip... RSN is fine or add it to the "sports package" for those who want it...
Rates do not go up because of one channel. They will go up regardless.
If it wont be added as HD then not interested.
The Longhorn network would be insane to let it be added in SD only. Where did this thought come from?
Texas is BIG. It has a spotbeam for the Dallas Area, one for the Houston Area, and one for San Antonio, which also includes - among others - Austin. There is also one pointed to the El Paso/Odessa region, and in the "northern block" of Texas where Amarillo is, it looks like it is covered by the Santa Fe, NM spot beam. None of the 5 spotbeams cover all of texas.
So to distribute this network to ALL of Texas, it will need to be added to 5 spot beams. That just doesn't make sense to me..... and is a waste of 5 spots that could also be used to expand the local stations that now aren't in HD yet, or to provide full locals in HD to areas that do not have them yet.
This is a regional sports network, and belongs with all the other RSN's on a CONUS beam.
I know it would be insane....thats why i would want it HD.
cause i like conjecturing ?
Why are you even conjecturing it would be in SD? I don't understand that.
